ENERGY MINISTRY AND PART OF ENVIRONMENT MINISTRY MERGE WITH ECONOMY MINISTRY

According to changes, announced today by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Energy Ministry and component of natural resources management of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection merge with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. As head of the enlarged Economy Ministry is nominated Dimitri Kumsishvili, current Finance Minister, who had headed the Ministry of Economy until November 2016.

CURRENT MINISTER OF ECONOMY IS NOMINATED AS NEW INTERIOR MINISTER

Today, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has nominated Giorgi Gakharia as new Minister of Interior and Deputy Prime Minister. Gakharia, who occupies currently post of Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development (since November 2016), “was elected to this post exactly because of his managerial experience”, the Premier declared.

Today, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has nominated Mamuka Bakhtadze as new Minister of Finance. Since 2013, Bakhtadze was director general of JSC Georgian Railways.

According to changes, announced today by Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili, component of youth affairs of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs is passed to the Ministry of Public Education and Sciences. Instead of Aleksandre Jejelava, the Ministry will be headed by Mikhail Chkhenkeli, current vice-rector of Tbilisi State University.

EUROPEAN COMMISSION OFFERED ALLOCATION OF 45M EUR WITHIN MACROECONOMIC SUPPORT TO GEORGIA

Recent report, published by European Commission on execution by Georgia of obligation within the agenda of agreement on association with the EU, in June of this year Georgia asked the EU for the new macroeconomic assistance. As the document specifies, European Commission in its turn has offered on September 29 such program within 45 million EUR to Georgia.

USAID AND CZECH DEVELOPMENT FUND TO ASSIST GEORGIA IN IMPROVEMENT OF PHYTOSANITARY STANDARDS

Georgian Agriculture Ministry reported that trilateral agreement was signed today, aiming assistance to Georgia in introduction and improvement of phytosanitary standards. The document was signed by heads of the Ministry, mission of USAID and Czech Republic’s Development Fund.

“CEMENT INVEST” ACQUIRED 50% IN “HEIDELBERGCEMENT CAUCASUS”

On November 11, the deal was reported, through which 50% in HeidelbergCement Caucasus was acquired by Cement Invest, founded by Georgian Co-Investment Fund and Hunnewell Partners. Cost of the transaction made up 115 million EUR, which will be directed on reduction of net debt of the company, HeidelbergCement Caucasus said in the statement.

“ANAKLIA CITY” PLANS COOPERATION WITH “GEBRUDER WEISS”

Anaklia City reported about forthcoming signing of preliminary agreement with Austrian transport and logistic company Gebruder Weiss. The parties agreed on the subject during the business forum, held in Austria, where project of Anaklia port was presented, Anaklia City said, noting that about 25 companies took part in the forum.
