AS OF JANUARY 1, TBILISI ACCOUNTED FOR 64.2% OF TOTAL CREDITS, ISSUED IN LARI

National Bank of Georgia reported that in total credits, issued by Georgian banks in lari as of January 1 (13.93 billion lari), Tbilisi accounted for 8.95 billion lari (or 64.2%). To compare, a year ago (i.e. as of January 1, 2019), share of Tbilisi in total crediting in lari (11.31 billion lari) made up 6.94 billion lari (or 61.4%).

National Bank of Georgia reported that in total credits, issued by Georgian banks in foreign currency as of January 1 (equivalent of 17.71 billion lari), Tbilisi accounted for equivalent of 14.66 billion lari (or 82.8%). To compare, a year ago (i.e. as of January 1, 2019), share of Tbilisi in total crediting in foreign currency (equivalent of 14.85 billion lari) made up equivalent of 12.18 billion lari (or 82%).

“PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” AGENCY HEAD: WITH ASSISTANCE OF THE AGENCY, 5 NEW INVESTMENT PROJECTS WERE STARTED IN 2019

Mikhail Khidureli, head of the Agency Produce in Georgia, declared that with assistance of the Agency, 5 new investment projects were started in 2019. These projects will bring to Georgia foreign direct investments of $83 million and will create 850 new jobs, he pointed.

“PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” AGENCY HEAD: “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM PROVIDES PERCEPTIBLE ECONOMIC EFFECT

In spite of the fact that there passed about 6 years since launch of the “Produce in Georgia” state program, this program “provides perceptible economic effect”, head of Produce in Georgia Agency Mikhail Khidureli stated. Each lari, spent as subsidy within the state program, gave an incentive for investment of 15.7 lari, Khidureli declared, while reporting on the Agency’s activity in 2019 today.

ENERGY DEVELOPMENT FUND DIRECTOR: TENDERS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF SOLAR AND WIND POWER PLANTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED

Giorgi Chikovani, head of Georgian Energy Development Fund, declared that tenders for construction of solar and wind power plants will be announced in the current year. The matter concerns solar power station with capacity of 25 MW and wind plant of 20 MW.

EMC OPPOSES HANDOVER OF FORESTS TO GEORGIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) pointed that Georgian Parliament considers in second hearing the package of legislative amendments, which has to regulate issues of forest management. In this process, concern is caused by amendments, to be made in law “On the State Property”, according to which, forests can be handed over to Georgian Orthodox Church, the organization declares.

INITIATIVE OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL ISSUES: SUBSISTENCE ASSISTANCE TO BENEFICIARY FAMILIES NOT TO BE SUSPENDED DURING THEIR CHECK

Healthcare and Social Issues Committee of Georgian Parliament put forward an initiative not to suspend subsistence assistance to beneficiary families during verification of their status. The initiative was announced today at the news briefing by the Committee chairman Dmitry Khundadze, who noted that its realization will require additional 5.4 million lari.
