    RUSSIA INSISTS ON THE JOINT PROTECTION OF THE CHECHEN PART OF THE BORDER

    This is the information delivered to Sarke by some reliable Russian sources. At present the negotiations on the admission of the Russian frontiers on the Georgian territory is being held.


    GEORGIA AND ARMENIA ANNOUNCED ABOUT A NEW STAGE IN BUILDING THE FRIENDLY INTERRELATIONS

    The main result of the Georgian President’s visit in Armenia, according to him, is the signing of the declaration on principals of the two countries’ cooperation on a new stage of their interrelations. As Shevardnadze stressed, this declaration is not just a “statement of some general ideas”.


    THE GEORGIAN PRESIDENT GOING TO VISIT UKRAINE TOMORROW

    During Eduard Shevardnadze’s two-day visit in Ukraine the negotiations will focus on the development of the transport connections and the prospects of the Caspian oil transportation. It is envisaged to sign the declaration as well as the intergovernmental agreements on the co-operation of the two countries’ Economics and Finance Ministries.


    DURBAR AT THE CHINESE EMBASSY IN GEORGIA

    As it is known, today is the 50th anniversary from the proclamation of the Peoples’ Republic of China. The reception held by the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of China in Georgia was dedicated to this date.


    THE DELEGATION OF THE DEFENSE MINISTRY OF GEORGIA GOING ON AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE GREAT BRITAIN

    The Georgian delegation headed by the Defense Minister David Tevzadze will visit the Great Britain on October 5-8. The official visit will be held at the invitation of the English side.


    ABKHAZ COMPATRIOTS COMMUNITY IN TURKEY CONSIDERS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ABKHAZIA AS HISTORICAL PHENOMENON

    According to the information delivered from Abkhazia, this is said in a letter sent to the Abkhaz leader Vladislav Ardzinba. As the letter puts it, the representatives of the Abkhaz compatriots’ community living in Turkey support the Ardzinba’s candidature and are sorry that can not participate in the upcoming elections because of the earthquake in Turkey.

    FIRST ROUND OF TENDER TO DETERMINE THE COUNCILOR ON THE PRIVATIZATION OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPHERE COMPLETED

    Today, at the State Property Management Ministry was introduced the projects of the potential councilors. Raiffeisen Investment AG, Credit Commercial de France, Delloitte&Touche, Arthur Andersen and the consortium established by Commerzbank, Price-Waterhouse Coopers and Sakartevlos Banki will participate in the tender.

    160 MEN HAVE CROSSED THE CHECHEN PART OF THE GEORGIAN-RUSSIAN BORDER BY SEPTEMBER 30

    According to the Ministry of Refugees and Displaced People, they can not be assumed as refugees as all of them are the Georgian citizens. The representative of the Ministry declared that the situation is under the control and there are not any problems with the placement of the people crossing the border, as they – Kistians (people akin to Chechens) – will either live in their own or at their relatives’ houses.


    SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF UN SECRETARY GENERAL VISITING GEORGIA TOMORROW ON THE ISSUES CONCERNING DISPLACED PEOPLE

    The visit of the Francis Denck, lasting till October 6, will be dedicated to the discussion of the mechanism of returning immovables to the people, suffered as a result of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict of 1991-1992 years. The Georgian side has introduced this mechanism to them.


    STUDENTS OF TBILISI STATE UNIVERSITY AGAINST THE INCREASE OF THE EDUCATION FEE

    The request of the pay faculties’ students, who held a protest action demanding to leave the same fee, was not met. The administration of the University announced that, these measures are caused by the necessity to raise the salaries of the lecturers, who are dissatisfied by the repayment of their work.
