    NDI SURVEY: IN GEORGIA, SUPPORT OF EU MEMBERSHIP HAS GROWN TO 81%

    Survey, conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in December 2022, shows that support of membership in the EU has grown in Georgia to 81% and “returned to the usual mark”.

    At that, majority of the population considers that the Georgian government does nothing or does not do enough for Georgia to join the EU, NDI Georgia indicated.


    NDI SURVEY: MAJORITY CONSIDERS THAT RUSSIANS’ IMMIGRATION MIGHT HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON GEORGIA

    Survey, conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in December 2022, shows that majority of Georgians considers that immigration of Russians to Georgia (after the outbreak of Russia’s war in Ukraine) could have a negative impact on Georgia.

    In particular, 69% of respondents believe that the impact could be negative, against of 17%, who think that it could be positive.

    NBG RETAINS FORECAST FOR GEORGIA’S GDP GROWTH FOR 2023 AT 4%

    Against the background of exhausting of migration flows to Georgia and expected global slowdown in economic growth, a slowdown is also expected in Georgia in 2023, says National Bank of Georgia (NBG) in its recent monetary policy report. In 2023, the growth rate of economic activity will decrease to 4%, NBG forecasts.


    NBG: DURING THE YEAR, INFLATION WILL DECREASE TO 5.4% ON AVERAGE

    During the current year, inflation in Georgia will decrease to 5.4% on average and will approach the target indicator (3%) from the second half of the year, says the baseline macroeconomic forecast of National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

    In its recent monetary policy report, NBG specifies that this will happen against the background of normalization, on the one hand, of aggregated demand, while on the other hand, of supply factors.


    IN Q4 OF 2022, NOMINAL EXCHANGE RATE OF LARI AGAINST THE US DOLLAR STRENGTHENED BY 3.2% Q-O-Q, AGAINST EURO – BY 2.3%

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that in the 4th quarter of 2022, nominal exchange rate of lari against the US dollar has strengthened by 3.2% compared to the previous quarter. Against euro, Georgian national currency has strengthened by 2.3%.


    NBG FORECAST: IN 2023, GEORGIA’S CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT WILL GROW TO 6% OF GDP

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) forecasts that in 2023, negative balance of international payments will grow to 6% of GDP. This will be due to the expected global recession and the weakening of the effect of migration flows, says NBG in its recent monetary policy report.


    KAZAKH EXPERT WILL PROVIDE CONSULTATIONS ON OIL SECTOR TO GEORGIAN ECONOMY MINISTRY

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that it will get consultations in the oil sector from Zhakip Marabayev.

    The Ministry specified that according to agreement with the expert, Marabayev will provide consultations in the development of a state strategy in this area.

    NDI SURVEY: PRICE GROWTH, JOBS AND POVERTY REMAIN TOP NATIONAL CONCERNS

    Survey, conducted by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in December 2022, shows that price growth, jobs and poverty remain the most important challenges in Georgia. Every third citizen considers himself economically unprotected.
