    GEORGIA FILLED IN FIRST PART OF THE EU QUESTIONNAIRE, COMPLETION OF THE SECOND PART IS PLANNED UNTIL MAY 13

    Today, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili handed over the 1st part of the EU questionnaire, which the country has already filled in, to the head of the EU Delegation to Georgia Carl Hartzell.

    The Georgian government reported that the 2nd sector-based part of the questionnaire will be submitted to the EU by May 13.


    WEARING OF MASKS REMAINS MANDATORY ONLY IN MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT

    Georgian Ministry of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection and Georgian National Center for Disease Control and Public Health decided to retain from May 2 requirement of mandatory wearing of masks only in medical institutions and municipal transport (until now, masks should have been worn in all in-door areas). They explained the decision by the noticeably reduced COVID-19 infection and mortality rates.

    PREMIER: MANY IMPORTERS STARTED SUPPLYING RELATIVELY CHEAP FUEL, BUT THIS HAS NOT AFFECTED PRICES YET

    According to our information, many importers have started delivery of relatively cheap fuel, but this has not affected the prices yet, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at the Georgian government meeting today.

    The Premier said that Georgian National Competition Agency will conduct detailed study of fuel prices and submit an interim conclusion by May 15.


    FINANCE MINISTER: GEORGIA’S ECONOMY HAS NOT BEEN AFFECTED YET BY RISKS ARISING FROM GEOPOLITICAL SITUATION IN THE REGION

    Georgia’s Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili declared that the Georgian economy has not been affected yet by the risks, arising from the geopolitical situation in the region.

    Georgia’s GDP growth in the 1st quarter (by 14.4% year-on-year) is to some extent a continuation of last year’s period of rapid recovery, the Minister told journalists after the government meeting today.


    NBG: SUSTAINABLE FINANCE TAXONOMY REGULATION WILL ENTER IN FORCE IN 2023

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) published draft of sustainable finance taxonomy, pointing that it will enter in force on January 1, 2023.

    Sustainable finance taxonomy is a classification system for activities that serve the goals of climate, green, social and sustainable development.


    FEASIBILITY STUDY OF PCS DEVELOPMENT IN GEORGIAN PORTS HAS BEEN COMPLETED

    A feasibility study on development of a port community system (PCS) in Georgian seaports has been completed, Georgian Maritime Transport Agency reported.

    The study was conducted by an Estonian-German consortium with the support of EBRD and the Secretariat of the Investors Council.


    AGRICULTURE MINISTRY: FRENCH SIDE EXPRESSED READINESS TO ASSIST GEORGIAN FARMERS IN IMPROVEMENT OF WHEAT QUALITY

    The French side expressed readiness to assist Georgian farmers in improvement of wheat quality and crop capacity, reported Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

    The Ministry said that this was announced at the meeting, held today at the Ministry with Francois Viel, regional adviser on agrarian issues of the economic mission at the French embassy in Georgia.


    REHABILITATION OF RAILWAY STATION CONNECTING WITH KUTAISI AIRPORT COST UP TO 1.64M LARI

    The Georgian government reported that rehabilitation of Kopitnari railway station, which is a connection with the Kutaisi airport, cost up to 1.64 million lari.

    As the government noted, passengers will be transported from the station to the airport by shuttles, which will take up to 5 minutes.
