    INTERIOR MINISTER IS NOMINATED FOR PRIME MINISTER’S POST

    Today, Bidzina Ivanishvili (billionaire leader of ruling Georgian Dream) nominated current Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia for the post of Prime Minister (yesterday, Mamuka Bakhtadze declared about his step down from this post). As he noted, “we got full support” in regard of Gakharia’s candidacy at the meeting of Georgian Dream’s political council.


    THIS WEEK, THE PARLIAMENT TO HEAR CANDIDATES FOR THE GOVERNMENT MEMBERSHIP

    Today, autumn session of Georgian Parliament was opened. However, as the Parliament said, instead of plenary sessions, committee meetings will be held this week, at which candidates for the government membership will be heard.

    ANNUAL INFLATION IN AUGUST MADE UP 4.9%

    Sakstat reported that in August, annual inflation made up 4.9%, while monthly inflation (i.e. price growth in comparison with previous month, July) made up 0.8%.

    At that, Sakstat specified that without consideration of prices on tobacco products, annual inflation in the reporting month made up 4.2%, while monthly inflation – the same 0.8%.


    IN Q2, BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER INCREASED BY 26.6% Y-O-Y, OUTPUT – BY 12%

    Sakstat reported that turnover of Georgian business sector totaled in the 2nd quarter to 25.2 billion lari, increasing by 26.6% year-on-year.

    In total turnover, 39.5% accounted for sphere of trade (including repair of cars, household products and personal items).


    IN Q2, NUMBER OF OCCUPIED IN BUSINESS SECTOR INCREASED BY 4.8% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat reported that number of persons, occupied in Georgian business sector, totaled in the 2nd quarter to 687,900, increasing by 4.8% year-on-year.

    Out of total, women accounted for 41.1%.


    IN Q2, EMPLOYEES’ SHARE IN TOTAL NUMBER OF OCCUPIED DECREASED BY 1.1 PP Y-O-Y

    Sakstat reported that share of employees in total number of persons, occupied in Georgian business sector, made up in the 2nd quarter 50.3%. If compared with the same period of previous year, this indicator has decreased by 1.1 percentage points (pp), Georgian statistics service noted.


    IN 2018, NUMBER OF HOTELS’ GUESTS INCREASED BY 8.4%

    Based on declared data, Sakstat reported that Georgian hotels and institutions of hotel type received 3.67 million people during 2018. If compared with 2017, the number has increased by 8.4%.


    “IPM”: MEDIA COVERAGE OF ECONOMIC SITUATION IN THIS YEAR IS MORE ACTIVE, THAN IN THE PAST ONE

    IPM (Institute for Polling and Marketing, Tbilisi-based market research company) declared that media coverage of economic situation in Georgia is more active this year, than in the past one. As the company noted, number of published articles and broadcasted news, covering problems or innovations in the leading spheres of economy, has increased.

    COMMUNICATION COMMISSION FINED “TV PIRVELI”

    Georgian National Communication Commission declared that broadcasting company TV Pirveli is fined with 23,513 lari. As the reason, illegal broadcast of feature films is named.


    CHARTER FLIGHTS TO BE MADE BETWEEN VILNIUS AND BATUMI

    On September 2, the first direct charter flight from Vilnius (Lithuania) was made to Batumi, TAV Georgia (operator of Tbilisi and Batumi airports) reported.

    As the company noted, the flights will be conducted until end of September, once a week (on Mondays).
