GERMAN EMBASSY: SINCE LAUNCH OF VISA WAIVER, NUMBER OF ASYLUM APPLICANTS TRIPLED
In comparison with the period before visa liberalization (i.e. until March 2017), number of asylum applicants from Georgia has tripled, German embassy in Georgia said. The embassy pointed that only in January, more than 700 Georgian citizens had applied for asylum in Germany, being refused almost totally.
COMPETITION ANNOUNCED ON COMMERCIAL ATTACHES’ SELECTION
Today, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development launched a competition on commercial attaches’ selection, which will last for 14 days. The selection process itself will last for 3-4 months, the Ministry said, adding that the selected candidates, after corresponding retraining, will get to work during 2018.

IN Q4 OF 2017, TURNOVER OF BUSINESS SECTOR INCREASED BY 21.5% Y-O-Y, OUTPUT – BY 19.5%
Sakstat declared that business sector’s turnover in the 4th quarter of 2017 amounted to 21.1 billion lari, increasing year-on-year by 21.5%. In total turnover for the 4th quarter, trade (including repair of cars, household goods and essential items) accounted for 47.3%.
IN Q4 OF 2017, NUMBER OF OCCUPIED IN BUSINESS SECTOR INCREASED BY 6.3% Y-O-Y
Sakstat declared that in the 4th quarter of 2017, number of occupied in business sector made up 660,100. If compared with the same period of 2016, the number has increased by 6.3%.
EXPERTS OF IOC HEAD OFFICE GET ACQUAINTED WITH CAPACITY OF GEORGIAN MOUNTAIN RESORTS
Group of experts of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) arrived to Georgia today, aiming acquaintance with capacity of mountain resorts of the country. Within the visit, the experts will visit Gudauri and Kazbegi on March 7, and Borjomi and Bakuriani – on March 8, Georgian government reported.
USAID ALLOCATES $3.5M FOR FIGHT AGAINST BROWN MARMORATED STINK BUG
USAID allocates $3.5 million to Georgia for fight against brown marmorated stink bug (the pest, causing significant loss to the western Georgia in 2017). Respective memorandum was signed between USAID and Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

PARTNERSHIP FUND CHAIRMAN: IN INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO OF $2.5B, THE FUND PARTICIPATES WITH $400M
Georgian Partnership Fund’s investment portfolio totals to $2.5 billion, executive director of the Fund David Saganelidze said. In this portfolio, “participation of our Fund amounts merely to about $400 million”, he noted.
“SAKARTVELOS KAPITALI” PLACED BONDS OF $300M
Sakartvelos Kapitali (Capital of Georgia, investment arm of BGEO Group) declared today about bonds’ placement of $300 million (the transaction will be completed on March 9). As the company noted, securities are issued and placed for 98.77% of emission price.
OBLIGATORY BUYOUT OF SHARES OF JSC “TBILABRESHUMI” ANNOUNCED
Owner of 95.64% of shares and director of JSC Tbilabreshumi (Tbilisi Silk) Otar Lomaia announced obligatory buyout of shares from minority holders. As the published statement reads, the shares will be redeemed from other shareholders at the fair price.
WITHIN “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA”, PLASTER MANUFACTURE TO BE LAUNCHED IN VILLAGE OF MARTKOPI
Within “Produce in Georgia” state program, enterprise for production of plaster materials will be created in village Martkopi (Gardabani municipality of Kvemo Kartli region), the government declared. For that end, real estate in Gardabani municipality was handed over to LLC Partner through direct sale.
