    GEORGIAN PREMIER: WE CONDEMN RUSSIA’S AGGRESSION AGAINST UKRAINE AND EXPRESS FULL SOLIDARITY TO THE UKRAINIAN PEOPLE

    “We condemn Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine”, “my government expresses full solidarity to the Ukrainian people”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared at the high-level international donors conference “For Ukraine”, held on May 5 in Poland.

    The Premier noted that the war in Ukraine has caused severe humanitarian crisis in the region that requires immediate action from the international community.

    IN 2021, VOLUME OF INTERBANK TRANSACTIONS, CONDUCTED IN LARI, INCREASED BY 54.9%

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that volume of transactions, conducted in national currency on the interbank market in 2021, totaled to 31.1 billion lari. If compared with the showing of 2020, the volume has increased by 54.9%, NBG said.


    NBG: IN 2021, VOLUME OF CURRENCY SWAP OPERATIONS RANGED WITHIN $12.9-138M

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that 12 currency swap operations were conducted during 2021 (once a month). Volumes of these operations varied by month and ranged within $12.9-138 million, NBG said.


    NBG: IN 2021, DEPOSIT CERTIFICATES OF 260M LARI WERE PLACED

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that 13 auctions were held during 2021 for 3-months deposit certificates (NBG’s tool for liquidity management).

    Overall, deposit certificates with a nominal value of 260 million lari were placed and deposit certificates of the same volume were covered, NBG said.


    THIS YEAR, MINISTRY OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE PLANS IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS IN KAKHETI WORTH 1.4B LARI

    Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure declared about implementation of 112 projects in Kakheti region this year. For that end, it is planned to spend 1.4 billion lari, the Ministry said.

    REGULATING COMMISSION GAVE CONSENT TO ALIENATION OF 100% IN SISTER COMPANIES OF “VEON GEORGIA”

    Georgian National Communication Commission reported that it gave consent to alienation of 100% in two companies – Watertrial Industries and Investico Alliance, which belong to VEON Georgia Holding BV (owner of Georgian mobile operator VEON Georgia).

    The stakes were acquired by individual Khvicha Makatsaria.


    NEW WALKWAY OPENED AT TBILISI AIRPORT

    A new passenger boarding bridge was opened at Tbilisi International Airport on May 5. The project envisages arrangement of 26,000 square m area with artificial layer of high strength, in which $2.5 million was invested, airport operator TAV Georgia reported.

    “TI GEORGIA”: VIOLATIONS REVEALED IN DECLARATIONS OF TBILISI SAKREBULO MEMBERS

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, reported that violations were revealed in declarations of the members of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (city council). The organization examined business interests and political donations of all 50 members of Sakrebulo, including 29 holders of an office.
