    THE PREMIER: AT THE MEETING OF ASSOCIATION COUNCIL, ATTENTION WAS PAID TO GEORGIA’S IMPORTANT ROLE IN ENERGY DIRECTION

    Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said that at the meeting of the EU-Georgia Association Council (on February 5, in Brussels), attention was paid to important role of Georgia in direction of energy.

    The Premier declared this at the government meeting today and noted: “Potential that oil and gas from the Caspian region to be delivered to Europe via Georgia, is even higher”.

    IN DECEMBER 2017, INDUSTRIAL PPI INCREASED BY 8.7% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat reported that industrial producer price index (PPI) in December 2017 has increased by 8.7% year-on-year. In comparison with November (i.e. month-on-month), PPI has decreased by 0.8%.


    IN DECEMBER 2017, IMPORT PRICE INDEX INCREASED Y-O-Y BY 11%, EXPORT PRICE INDEX – BY 14.6%

    Sakstat reported that import price index in December 2017 has increased in comparison with the same month of 2016 by 11%.

    Prices in segment of mining and earth excavation increased by 3.3%, in manufacturing – by 12.1%.


    IN DECEMBER 2017, PPI IN LAND FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION INCREASED BY 1% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat reported that producer price index (PPI) in freight transportation by land transport in December 2017 has increased in comparison with the same month of 2016 by 1%.

    At that, PPI decreased in railway transport by 3.2%, while increased in motor transport by 7.1% and pipeline transport – by 1.4%.


    THROUGH GRANT OF “MCC”, $68M TO BE INVESTED IN GEORGIAN EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE

    Within the second grant (Compact) of the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), $68 million will be invested in educational infrastructure of Georgia as grant, Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia reported. Out of this sum, procurements worth $20 million will be conducted in the current year.


    “GEORGIAN POST” TO LAUNCH E-COMMERCE PLATFORM IN MAY

    In May, Georgian Post will launch platform of electronic commerce, which will allow purchase and sale of goods not in Georgia only, but also abroad, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili declared.

    At the first stage, Georgian Post will launch single component of the platform, Maleo, which targets mainly residents of regions, the Minister said.


    IN MOUNTAIN REGIONS, SMALL ROPEWAYS TO BE MOUNTED

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili reported that in mountain regions of the country, small ropeways are mounted.

    “We began installation of “mini” ropeways in villages”, the Premier declared at the government meeting today.


    IN COTTAGES AND HOTEL OF GODERDZI RESORT, 1,424 VISITORS WERE REGISTERED IN 2017, OF WHOM 65% WERE LOCALS

    Ajara government reported that 1,424 visitors were registered during 2017 in cottages and hotel of alpine resort Goderdzi (110 km from Batumi, 1,725 m above sea level).

    Out of total, 926 visitors (65%) were citizens of Georgia.


    SELLING OF SPICES TO BE CONDUCTED BY NEW RULES

    According to Georgian government’s resolution, temporary risk management measures will be enacted in respect of production and realization of spices and seasonings.

    While reporting on the subject, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture noted that the mentioned measures will be valid no more than 2 years.

    ECONOMY MINISTRY: “CHINA RAILWAY INTERNATIONAL GROUP” BECAME INTERESTED IN INVESTMENT IN ANAKLIA PORT

    China Railway International Group became interested in investment in Anaklia port, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared. The Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili held a meeting with delegation of the Chinese company today.


    FINANCE MINISTRY’S INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE: INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED ON ILLEGAL ASSIGNMENT OF STAKE IN LLC “BADAGONI”

    On January 18, criminal investigation was launched on illegal assignment of considerable stake in LLC Badagoni (the winemaking company), Investigative Service of the Finance Ministry reported.

    As the Service specified, investigation was launched, based on application of representative of Grakoro Trading Limited, former owner of the stake in Badagoni.
