    AT THE END OF THE CURRENT MONTH, GEORGIA AND HONG KONG TO SIGN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT

    At the end of the current month, Georgia and Hong Kong will sign free trade agreement, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared at the government meeting today. The agreement will be signed within the “Belt and Road” summit in Hong Kong, he said.

    GEORGIAN FINANCE MINISTER PARTICIPATES IN ANNUAL MEETING OF DUTCH GROUP OF IMF AND WB MEMBER COUNTRIES

    On June 8-10, Georgia’s Finance Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze will participate in annual constituency meeting of so-called “Netherlands Group” of IMF and World Bank (WB) member countries. The meeting with participation of 15 countries of the group is held in Split (Croatia).


    THE PREMIER: NEGOTIATIONS WITH “MILLENNIUM CHALLENGE CORPORATION” LAUNCHED ON THE 3RD COMPACT

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that negotiations were launched with the US Millennium Challenge Corporation on future cooperation by means of components of the 3rd Compact (program).

    The Premier said this at the meeting of supervisory council of Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia, held in Tbilisi on June 7.


    IN WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, GEORGIA TO COOPERATE WITH FRENCH AGENCY

    Today, Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture signed in Tbilisi a cooperation memorandum with French Artois-Picardie Water Agency.

    The memorandum aims development of technical cooperation of the parties in water resources’ integrated management, the Ministry pointed.


    THE GOVERNMENT APPROVED DOCUMENTATION ON GUDAURI URBAN PLANNING

    At the meeting today, the government approved documentation on urban planning of alpine resort Gudauri.

    “I think, the work, which the government conducted together with Canadian company Ecosign, provides us an opportunity to develop systematically the very important Gudauri resort”, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared at the meeting.


    GAS INSTALLATION BEGINS IN MOUNTAIN AJARA

    The second stage of gas installation begins in Ajara, which will provide gas supply to 9,000 consumers in mountainous part of the autonomous republic, the government declared. The project will be implemented by Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.

    REGULATING COMMISSION: IN 2017, INCOME FROM TV BROADCASTING INCREASED BY 0.7%, FROM RADIO BROADCASTING – DECREASED BY 12.3%

    National Communication Commission reported that income from TV broadcasting totaled in 2017 to 96.8 million lari, increasing by 0.7% year-on-year. In TV broadcasters’ total income, advertising and sponsorship account for 82%.


    IN 2017, INCOME OVER 100M LARI IN SPHERE OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS WAS GAINED BY 4 ENTITIES

    In its annual report for 2017, National Communication Commission said that income over 100 million lari was gained by 4 out of 329 entities, engaged in electronic communications. In 2016, such income was also gained by 4 entities.


    CHINESE SIDE EXPRESSED DESIRE OF INVESTMENT IN PIG BREEDING IN GEORGIA

    The Chinese side expressed desire of investment in pig breeding in Georgia, Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported. The subject was considered at the meeting with Chinese Hunan Agricultural Group.

    EMC: STRIKE OF SUBWAY STAFF CAUSED PUBLIC CRITICISM CONCERNING SOCIAL POLICY IN THE COUNTRY AND TBILISI MUNICIPALITY

    Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) declared that recent strike of drivers of Tbilisi subway “generated considerable public criticism toward labor and social policy in the country and in Tbilisi municipality”.

    The strike “played essential role in lustration of that policy of employer and Tbilisi City Hall, which is not focused on social and economic wellbeing of employee”, EMC pointed.
