    SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF UN SECRETARY GENERAL ON REFUGEES ARRIVED IN GEORGIA

    Francis Deng is going to participate in the regional workshop on refugees and displaced people to be conducted in Tbilisi. The representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia will take part in the conference conducted with the participation of the UN High Commissariat of Refugees (UNHCR) by the OSCE support.


    DELEGATION OF CANADIAN PARLIAMENT WILL ARRIVE IN TBILISI

    The delegation is headed by the Chairman of the Foreign Relations and International Trade Committee Ben Graham. As Sarke was informed at the Public Information Department of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia, it is planned to hold meetings with the President Eduard Shevardnadze, Chairman of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania, acting State Minister Vazha Lortkipanidze and Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili during the visit, lasting from May 11 through 14.


    AT LEAST 2 CHAIRMEN OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEES WILL BE CHANGED

    As it has become known to Sarke, 2 out of 8 chairmen resigned yesterday did not attend today’s meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament. Yesterday, the President estimated the action of the chairmen, signing together with 120 deputies the declaration on the necessity to create the commission for the investigation of the government’s accountability in the economic crisis, as extremely untimely and indelicate.


    NEW SALARIES FOR THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE EMPLOYEES CONFIRMED

    The decree of the President aims at regulating the payment of the labor of the Prosecutor’s Office employees by the funds envisaged by the budget 2000 for this department.

    According to the decree the following wage-rates are introduced: prosecutor general – 400 Lari, first deputy – 330 Lari, deputy – 315 Lari, head of the investigating department and head of the training center – 280 Lari, head of office – 260 Lari.

    STATE FUNDS FAILED TO REACH TARGET FIGURES ACTUALLY ACCORDING TO EVERY ARTICLE

    The Budgetary Office of the Parliament has made this decision on the ground of the survey of the 1999 budget implementation results. In the United State Social Welfare Fund, the volume of spendings was estimated at 174.3 million Lari, 162.9 million was financed (93.4%).


    REFORM CONCEPTION OF THE CUSTOMS SYSTEM PLANNED TO BE SUBMITTED FOR APPROVAL IN THE NEAR FUTURE

    According to the Ministry of Tax Revenues, the representatives of WB, IMF as well as the Great Britain and US customs are taking an active part in the elaboration of the conception. As it was noted at the Ministry, the attention is focused on the organization of the system according to the regional principle, regarding the increased responsibility of the Customs while carrying out its ministerial duties.


    A NUMBER OF QUESTIONS OVER NON-AGRICULTURAL LANDS MANAGEMENT HAS BEEN REGULATED

    Under the decree signed recently by the President, the local management bodies provide the preliminary research and the conclusion formulation, over the lands selected either for a tender or a direct auction, on the ground of an agreement with adequate organizations. Actual spendings for these works will be indicated in the initial price of the non-agricultural land in the state ownership, while announcing tender or auction terms.

    ORDER OF TRANSFERENCE OF THE CONVICTED ALTERED

    According to the decree of the President, the final decision on the transference of the Georgian citizens convicted in foreign countries and foreigners convicted in Georgia is to be made by the Justice Ministry after the preliminary agreement with the General Prosecutor’s Office and Interior Ministry. Furthermore, the Prosecutor’s Office and Interior Ministry are to deliver their considerations to the Justice Ministry in 10 days.
