IN Q1, FDI INCREASED BY 3.7% Y-O-Y
According to preliminary data of Sakstat, volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), made in Georgia in the 1st quarter, amounted to $403.3 million. If compared with preliminary showing of the same period of 2016, the volume has increased by 3.7%.
BIGGEST FDI IN Q1 WERE MADE FROM AZERBAIJAN, TURKEY AND THE UK
According to preliminary data of Sakstat, biggest foreign direct investments (FDI) in the 1st quarter were made from Azerbaijan, Turkey and the UK. In total volume, these countries accounted for combined 64.1%.
IN Q1, TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS LED IN TERMS OF FDI VOLUME
According to preliminary data of Sakstat, in total foreign direct investments, made in Georgia in the 1st quarter, three sectors accounted for combined 74.6%. Biggest FDI in the reporting period were made in transport and communications.
WITH ASSISTANCE OF EUROPEAN EXPERTS, ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION MINISTRY IMPLEMENTS PROJECT ON SUSTAINED FOREST MANAGEMENT
Georgian Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection reported that implementation of the EU project “Steady Forest Management in Georgia”, which has started on June 1, will last for 18 months. In implementation of the project, Lithuanian-Hungarian consortium is involved.
PROJECT ON DEVELOPMENT OF SECTOR OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS IS IMPLEMENTED WITH ASSISTANCE OF EBRD
National Communication Commission said that project on development of sector of electronic communications is implemented with assistance of EBRD since July 2016. The project aims assistance in implementation of obligations, undertaken by Georgia under Agreement on Association with the EU, the Commission noted.
REHABILITATION OF TSKNETI-SAMADLO AND TSKNETI-AKHALDABA ROAD IS STARTED
Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure reported that Municipal Development Fund has started rehabilitation of Tskneti-Samadlo and Tskneti-Akhaldaba road. Completion of works is planned in 2018.

OPERATORS TO PAY TO PORTABILITY ADMINISTRATOR 274,899 EUR ANNUALLY
National Communication Commission reported that the sum, which telephone operators will have to pay to Mediafon for portability service, totals to 274,899 EUR annually (VAT exclusive). To remind, Mediafon won a competition, announced by the Commission in 2016, and will administer portability database during 5 years.
79,000 MOBILE NUMBERS WERE PORTED IN 2016
National Communication Commission reported that 79,000 mobile numbers were ported in 2016. As a result of portability, 43,000 subscribers had turned to MagtiCom, 26,000 – to Geocell, while 10,000 – to Mobitel (Beeline).
NEW RADIOTHERAPY CENTER OPENS IN GEORGIA
On June 9, center of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine, conforming to the European standards, will be opened in Tbilisi, on the territory nearby to Lisi Lake. For medical management of the center, Turkish clinic Liv Hospital is invited.
“THE GROVE DESIGN HOTEL” OPENED IN TBILISI
Today, The Grove Design Hotel was opened near Queen Tamar Bridge in Tbilisi, which management is undertaken by international management company SolutionsHI. The 9-storeyed hotel has 39 rooms.
