    THE EU REPRESENTATION: WE REGRET THAT BROADER CONSENSUS AROUND AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION WAS NOT BUILT

    Representation of the EU in Georgia “concurs with the Venice Commission’s opinion, released yesterday, which positively assesses the constitutional reform” in Georgia, the representation says in the statement released today.

    “Nevertheless, we note that the Venice Commission regrets the postponement of the introduction of the proportional electoral system”, the statement reads.


    “TI GEORGIA”: DECISION ON HANDOVER OF THE LAND PLOTS TO COMPANIES, CONNECTED WITH IVANISHVILI, IS POORLY GROUNDED

    “We consider that decision on handing over of the territories, which are in the state ownership, to the companies, connected with Ivanishvili [billionaire ex-premier], is poorly grounded”, declares TI Georgia., Georgian branch of Transparency International.

    This decision “does not serve unambiguously public interests and raises questions about motivation of the city authority, especially taking into account that the beneficiary of the decision is the founder of the ruling party”, the organization specifies.

    IMF MISSION EXPECTS IN GEORGIA RAPID DECREASE OF INFLATION AFTER EXHAUST OF INFLUENCE OF RAISED EXCISE

    “While inflation [in Georgia] has exceeded the central bank’s target so far in 2017, it is expected to decline rapidly as the impact of higher excise taxes abates”, mission of the IMF declares.

    To remind: excise tax in the country has been raised since January 1 of this year.


    UP TO 30 IRANIAN COMPANIES TOOK PART IN BUSINESS FORUM IN TBILISI

    Today, Tbilisi hosted Georgian-Iranian business forum, in which representatives of up to 30 Iranian companies took part, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported. Besides, the 6th meeting of Georgian-Iranian economic commission was held.


    THE PARLIAMENT’S COMMITTEE DISCUSSED ANTI-DUMPING LEGISLATION

    The Parliament’s Committee on Branch Economy and Economic Policy held a meeting today, at which the anti-dumping legislation was discussed.

    As the Parliament explained, the essence of the law is prohibition to importer companies to set prices, which will be much lower than those, existing on domestic market, that creates danger of emergence of monopolies.


    AJARA GOVERNMENT: WORKS ON GAS INSTALLATION STARTED IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS

    The government of Ajara declared that construction of the gas pipeline has started in mountainous part of the region, which has to come to the end in 2019. Cost of the project makes up 25.85 million lari, the government said.


    AGRICULTURE MINISTRY: 700-800 T OF “MUJURETULI” AND “ALEKSANDROULI” WILL BE PROCESSED IN RACHA

    Referring to preliminary data, the Agriculture Ministry declared that about 700-800 t of grapes of Mujuretuli and Aleksandrouli varieties will be processed this year in Racha region.

    Currently, grapes in the region are purchased by 12 winemaking companies, the Ministry reported.


    GEORGIAN AIRPORTS’ PASSENGER TRAFFIC FOR 9 MONTHS INCREASED BY 46.63% Y-O-Y

    Civil Aviation Agency reported that airports of Georgia had transported 3.2 million passengers in 9 months of this year. If compared with the same period of 2016, the number has increased by 46.63%, the government noted.

    “FITCH” ASSIGNED RATING TO “ENERGOPRO-GEORGIA”

    Fitch Ratings reported about assignment of expected long-term foreign currency issuer default rating “BB” to Georgia’s regional energy distributor EnergoPro-Georgia with stable outlook.

    We rate the company at the level of the country ceiling and therefore we do not expect a positive rating action in the near future, unless Georgian’s country ceiling is upgraded, Fitch declared.


    ENERGY MINISTRY SIGNED MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION WITH KAZAKH COMPANY “QUAZAR”

    Georgia Energy Ministry declared about signing of cooperation memorandum with Kazakh company Quazar. Meeting with representatives of the company took place in the Ministry on October 9.
