    GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT VOTED DOWN DRAFT LAW “ON TRANSPARENCY OF FOREIGN INFLUENCE”

    At the plenary session today, the Georgian Parliament voted down in second hearing the draft law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”. Results of voting, held without consideration: 35 votes – “contra”, 1 vote – “pro”.


    EU ANNOUNCED GRANT COMPETITION FOR GEORGIAN CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS

    The EU has announced a grant competition for civil society organizations, as key actors in Georgian sphere of governance. Deadline for presentation of the concept is April 24.

    “PMCG”: IN 2022, AVERAGE SIZE OF GEORGIAN 15+ POPULATION WENT BELOW 3M FOR THE FIRST TIME

    In 2022, annual average size of Georgian population aged 15 and above decreased to 2.99 million, says the macroeconomic survey by PMCG (Policy and Management Consulting Group). The company indicates that population of 15+ went below the mark of 3 million for the first time in the history of independent Georgia.


    IN 2022, FDI IN GEORGIA INCREASED BY 61.1% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which the volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), made in Georgia in 2022, totaled up to $2 billion. If compared with the adjusted data of 2021, the volume has increased by 61.1%.


    IN 2022, 3 SECTORS ACCOUNTED FOR 56.5% OF TOTAL FDI IN GEORGIA

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which in total volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), made in Georgia in 2022 (up to $2 billion), share of sector of finance and insurance made up 26.3%, or $526.4 million. If compared to 2021, FDI in this sector increased by 11.7%.


    IN 2022, TBILISI ACCOUNTED FOR 85.7% OF TOTAL FDI IN GEORGIA

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which in total volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), made in Georgia in 2022 (up to $2 billion), share of Tbilisi made up 85.7%, or $1.71 billion. If compared with 2021, FDI in Georgian capital have increased by 64%, while its share – by 1.7 percentage points.


    IN 2022, UK LED IN TERMS OF FDI IN GEORGIA

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which in total volume of foreign direct investments (FDI), made in Georgia in 2022 (up to $2 billion), share of the UK made up 21.4%, or $428.3 million. However, if compared with 2021, volume of FDI from this country has decreased by 29%.


    IN 2022, CYPRUS HAD THE LARGEST NEGATIVE FDI SHOWING IN GEORGIA

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which in 2022, negative showings of foreign direct investments (FDI) in Georgia (outflow) were recorded for 14 countries, totaling to $67.2 million.

    In total negative showing for 2022, share of Cyprus made up 37.6% ($25.26 million).
