    GEORGIA CALLED ON RUSSIA TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE THE FACT OF BOMBING GEORGIAN VILLAGES AND PUNISH THE CULPRITS

    As it has been informed, on August 9, 2 warplanes from the Russian side got to the Georgian territory and bombed the villages in the Akhmeta region near Dagestan's border. The President of Georgia, in his appeal to the Russian President expressed his deep concern in connection of this fact as well as the hope that Boris Yeltsin will take appropriate measures to give the evaluation to the fact and punish the nosers.

    WTO GENERAL COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER THE ISSUE OF GEORGIA JOINING THE ORGANIZATION AS AN OFFICIAL MEMBER

    This information comes from Tamar Beruchashvili, who was appointed Chairman of the Governmental Commission for cooperation with WTO.

    In Beruchashvili's words, different ministries have yet to fulfil certain responsibilities to WTO.


    30 MINUTE BLACKOUT IN EASTERN GEORGIA AS A RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT ON A HIGH-VOLTAGE LINE

    According to AES TELASI press-service, the accident occurred at Kartli-2, a 500KVt line connecting western and eastern Georgia. The cause of the accident is yet unknown.


    INTERNATIONAL AUDITORS WILL CHECK THE SUMS TRANSFERRED BY AJARA TO THE CENTRAL BUDGET OF GEORGIA

    The international auditors were invited by the leader of the Ajara Autonomic republic Aslan Abashidze. This action was caused by the accusations made by the central authorities of Georgia against the leadership of Ajara, according to which Ajara does not transfer the sums to the central budget.


    THE LOSS OF CATTLE IN TSKHINVALI REGION

    As it was informed at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food today, the main reason for this has yet to be found. There have been some suggestions that the loss of cattle might be caused by the anthrax.

    This is the information delivered by vice-chairman of the Veterinary Department Valeri Chichinadze during the press-conference held at the ministry of the Agriculture and Food today. In his words, the number of pariah-dogs, having different diseases, has increased lately.

    AES CORPORATION MANAGEMENT ARRIVED IN TBILISI

    The purpose of this first visit is getting acquainted with AES TELASI personnel and the present situation, as well as a meeting with the representatives of Georgian government.

    As Denis Back, the founder and president of AES corporation, said at the briefing on August 9, in the first quarter of 2000 EBRD and IFC will open a credit line of $60 million for AES TELASI.


    GLOBALINK OFFERS ITS SERVICES TO THE CITIZENS OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES LIVING IN GEORGIA IN THE SHIPMENT OF THEIR GOODS

    As Irhan Kent, the General Manager of GLOBALINK, informed Sarke, the first shipment of 5 clients’ goods from Europe to Georgia and Armenia took place at the end of July and they offer their services once a week. In the Manager’s opinion,the representation which opened in Georgia two months ago has good prospects because the number of foreign citizens in the country, hence of the potential customers of the firm has been growing (the employees of the embassies and of different international organizations).
