    IN GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS INDEX, GEORGIA’S POSITION DETERIORATED IN ALL 12 COMPONENTS

    In the World Economic Forum’s latest Global Competitiveness Report, Georgia among 141 countries went down from the 66th place as of previous rating to the 74th place (i.e. deterioration made up 8 steps).

    At that, Georgia’s scores improved in 6 out of 12 indicators, while worsened in remained 6 ones.


    IDFI: ACCORDING TO GLOBAL GOVERNANCE INDICATORS, REGRESS WAS OBSERVED IN GEORGIA IN 2018 IN RESPECT OF FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, RULE OF LAW AND POLITICAL STABILITY

    In the World Bank’s World Governance Indicators, Georgia received the highest assessment in 2014, after which pace of development was considerably slowed down, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) declared.

    IDFI indicated that in 2018, regress in the country was recorded in the components “Voice and Accountability”, “Rule of Law” and “Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism”.


    “TI GEORGIA”: IN 2017-2018, NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES AT AUTHORITIES PR-SERVICES AND THEIR COMPENSATION WERE STILL HIGH

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, declared that during 2017-2018, number of employees in PR-services of Georgian authorities and their remuneration cost were still high.

    The organization specified that information for respective research was requested from 216 public departments, of which 194 have replied.

    AS OF SEPTEMBER, NATIONAL CURRENCY SUPPLY INCREASED BY 19.3% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of September 30, volume of national currency supply made up 4.13 billion lari.

    If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has increased by 19.3% (by 668.14 million lari).


    IN Q3, RATES OF TREASURY SECURITIES YIELD INCREASED

    Georgian Finance Ministry reported that emission of treasury bills (maturity of 1 year and below) and treasury bonds (maturity of more than 1 year) totaled in the 3rd quarter to 480 million lari.

    Out of total, emission of 2-year bonds made up 120 million lari (against of 180 million in the 2nd quarter).

    “Construction is that branch, which in the recent years, was always driving force of economic growth, was, and is, the branch, which employs most of all people”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared.

    “I realize that 2017 was better, than 2018”, when there were “certain problems as regarding regulation, as well as concerning administration”, the Premier said at the meeting with representatives of construction sector today.


    ECONOMY MINISTRY: INTERNATIONAL SILK ROAD FORUM WILL BE ATTENDED BY 2,000 DELEGATES FROM 60 COUNTRIES

    On October 22-23, Tbilisi will host the International Silk Road Forum, part in which will take up to 2,000 delegates from up to 60 countries, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced. Since 2015, the forum is held every 2 years.


    BUSINESS OMBUDSMEN OF GEORGIA, POLAND, UKRAINE, KAZAKHSTAN AND UZBEKISTAN AGREED ON COOPERATION EXPANSION

    Today, office of Georgian business ombudsman signed in Tbilisi bilateral memorandums on expansion of cooperation with offices of business ombudsmen of Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

    As Georgia’s business ombudsman Irakli Lekvinadze pointed, with the mentioned cooperation, “we will reinforce Georgian companies on foreign markets”.
