    ECONOMY MINISTER: THERE IS A BIG POTENTIAL OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION BETWEEN GEORGIA AND UZBEKISTAN

    Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitri Kumsishvili considers that there is a big potential of economic cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan.

    “As of last year, we have a positive trade balance with Uzbekistan, and this tendency continues in this year also”, Kumsishvili declared after the meeting with governmental delegation of Uzbekistan, held in Tbilisi today.


    “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” AGENCY HAS NEW HEAD

    Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that Mikhail Khidureli, new head of the Ministry’s Agency Produce in Georgia, got to work since today.

    According to the Ministry, Khidureli was graduated in business administration in London and worked in both Georgian and foreign companies, including in Great Britain and Qatar.

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF WB GROUP: IN TERMS OF SIMPLICITY OF DOING BUSINESS, GEORGIA IS LEADER IN REGION

    Frank Heemskerk, executive director of the World Bank Group (WBG) and representative of the constituency, which includes Georgia, indicates that Georgia is on the 9th place in the world in terms of the most favorable conditions for business. In the region, the country is leader in terms of simplicity of doing business, he notes.


    GEORGIA MOVED FROM ITU OFFICE OF CIS ZONE TO EUROPEAN REGIONAL ONE

    International Telecommunication Union (ITU, the UN specialized agency) satisfied request of Georgia and moved the country from office of CIS zone to European regional office, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

    As the Ministry noted, after Georgia left the CIS, the country did not participate in meetings of the specified zone office any more, while could not participate at the same time in meetings of the European office, as was not its member officially.


    NBG: IN Q1, NOMINAL EXCHANGE RATE OF LARI AGAINST THE US DOLLAR HAS STRENGTHENED BY 4.2% Q-O-Q

    In the 1st quarter, nominal exchange rate of lari against of the US dollar has strengthened by 4.2% quarter-o-quarter, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported. The rate, set on March 30, made up 2.4144 GEL/USD.


    CONSTRUCTION OF KSANI-LEKHURA SECTION OF EAST-WEST GAS MAIN STARTED

    Construction of 14-km Ksani-Lekhura section of East-West gas main pipeline is started, Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation reported. This section will have diameter of 700 mm and will replace old sections of Saguramo-Kutaisi pipeline, which had diameter of 500 mm, the Corporation said.


    WITHIN USAID PROJECT, GRANTS TO BE ISSUED FOR DEVELOPMENT OF GREENHOUSE FACILITIES

    USAID-funded project “Zrda in Georgia” (implemented by Chemonics International) announced grant competition for development of hothouse production of vegetables, strawberry and greens.

    Eligible projects should envisage construction of greenhouse facilities (up to 1,000 square m, 50 greenhouses at most) by the principle of co-financing.

    IN 2017, NUMBER OF APPEALS TO NBG’S OFFICE OF CUSTOMER PROTECTION INCREASED BY 140%

    In 2017, office of customer protection of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) recorded 3,269 appeals, which number has increased by 140% year-on-year, NBG reported.

    Most of all, claims concern requirements of restructuring, procedure of early payment of credit, write-off of penalties and fines, terms of bank-client agreement and program of a larization, NBG specified.


    “ACT”: 77% OF GEORGIAN POPULATION CONSIDERED IN 2017 THAT SAFETY OF INHABITANTS OF THEIR SETTLEMENT ARE PROTECTED, AGAINST OF 88% IN 2013

    Referring to research, conducted in 2017, Analysis and Consulting Group (ACT) declared that 77% of Georgian population consider that safety of inhabitants of their settlement is protected.

    This indicator has deteriorated during the last years, ACT noted.


    SCHOOL IN MARNEULI MUNICIPALITY IS RENEWED THROUGH GRANT OF JAPANESE EMBASSY

    In Zemo Sarali village of Marneuli municipality (Kvemo Kartli region), school is opened, which was renewed within the project, financed by the government of Japan, Japan embassy reported. The embassy signed grant agreement with Marneuli Democrat Women Society on March 2, 2017.
