    NBG EXCLUDES POSSIBILITY OF GEORGIAN BANKING SECTOR’S EMPLOYMENT BY A SANCTIONED ENTITY FOR FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) “firmly and decisively excludes the likelihood of a sanctioned entity being able to perform any kind of financial transaction using the Georgian banking sector”. “If these are detected, the NBG will respond sternly”, NBG emphasized in a statement, released today.


    EU HANDED OVER 4 RAPID RESPONSE BOATS TO GEORGIA

    Today, Georgian Interior Ministry, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the EU hosted in Poti the ceremony of handing over 4 modern rapid response boats to Georgia, the EU representation in Georgia reported.

    The EU representation specified that the boats with a total value of 5 million lari will be deployed in Poti and Batumi, assisting the Georgian Coast Guard in patrolling inshore waters.


    FROM THE NEXT WEEK, WEARING OF MASKS WILL NO LONGER BE MANDATORY IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT

    Georgian Ministry of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection declared that wearing of masks in public transport will no longer be mandatory since June 20.

    The Ministry noted that the Georgian government made the decision, taking into account the stable epidemiological situation in the country.

    USDA PLANS TO ASSIST GEORGIA IN OVERCOMING CHALLENGES IN THE GRAIN GROWING SECTOR

    Today, Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, met with Michael Francom, regional representative of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).

    At the meeting, the parties considered needs and challenges in respect of growth of grain production in Georgia, Georgian Agriculture Ministry said.


    IMF APPROVED NEW PROGRAM FOR GEORGIA

    The IMF reported about approval on June 15 by the executive board of a new program for Georgia in the amount of $280 million. This amount corresponds to 100% of Georgia’s quota in the IMF (210.4 million SDR).


    UNESCO ASSIGNED STATUS OF BIOSPHERE RESERVE TO 2 GEORGIAN TERRITORIES

    For the first time in the Caucasus, UNESCO decided to assign the status of a biosphere reserve to 2 territories of Georgia, the Georgian government declared. The matter concerns bioreservates in Dedoplistskaro and Alazani Valley, both located in Kakheti region.


    DEPUTY ECONOMY MINISTER: STATE PROPERTY IN KUTAISI WORTH OVER 60M LARI WILL BE OFFERED FOR PRIVATIZATION

    “Our task is to ensure involvement in the economy of all state assets that exist in the country”, declared Nino Enukidze, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.

    Only in Kutaisi and on its nearby territories, 25 state-owned facilities will be offered for privatization, which cost exceeds 60 million lari and which are attractive for investment, the Deputy Minister said.

    ARAB “MAWARID HOLDING INVESTMENT” GETS ACQUAINTED WITH POSSIBILITIES OF INVESTING IN GEORGIAN AGRICULTURE

    Today, Giorgi Khanishvili, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, met with representatives of Mawarid Holding Investment (UAE).

    The Ministry reported that the parties discussed possibilities of future trade and economic cooperation and investment in Georgian agriculture.
