PARLIAMENT TRANSFERS THE QUESTION OF THE EXPEDIENCY OF GEORGIA’S STAY IN CIS TO THE COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES FOR STUDYING

The yesterday’s special session of Parliament of Georgia discussed the questions of Abkhazia and Samachablo, as well as the expediency of Georgia’s stay in CIS. The draft decree was submitted by the leader of the majority Lana Gogoberidze.




RUSSIAN DUMA WILL RATIFY A TREATY ON FRIENDSHIP AND COOPERATION ONLY WHEN GEORGIA YIELDS ABKHAZIA TO IT

ARDZINBA SETS A TERM TO HOLDING THE ELECTIONS IN THE BODIES OF SELF-GOVERNMENT

According to the information from Sukhumi, President of self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba has passed a decree, according to which the elections in the local bodies of self-government will be held on March 1998 on the whole territory of Abkhazia, except Gali Region.

As it was already said, according to the decision of the separatist parliament, it is impossible to hold the elections in Gali Region because of an unstable situation in the region.




THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE APPOINTMENT OF A REPRESENTATIVE OF CHECHNYA TO ABKHAZIA DOES NOT CORRESPOND THE FACTS

Khizri Aldamov, a representative of President of Republic of Ichkeria to Georgia, has announced about it. According to Mr. Aldamov, Mr. Kutayev is his assistant and the latter visited Sukhumi in order to discuss with the separatist government a question of reinterment of the soldiers of the Georgian-Abkhazian war.

The president of the Center has informed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to USA about it in written form. The letter says, that the executive committee of the Center appreciates Mr. Shevardnadze’s role in formation of a new foreign political world outlook in the USSR and construction of independent Georgia.

THE NEXT YEAR BUDGET OF SELF-PROCLAIMED REPUBLIC OF ABKHAZIA ENVISAGES THE CHANGES IN COMPARISON WITH 1997

By decision of Cabinet of Ministers of self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia, in 1998 financing of the spheres of sport, culture and education will be decreased, at the expense of which financing of Defense and Internal Ministries will be increased. The revenue will be increased by 1.5 billion Russian Rubles.




USA EXPANDS THE PROGRAM ON ASSISTANCE TO GEORGIA

The assistance program stipulates allocation of means mainly on struggle with corruption, energy sector, technical maintenance of improvement of frontier guard. As Temur Basilia, assistant of President on economic reform, has informed Sarke, the questions connected with building of hydro power station, including completion of work at KhudoniHES, are studied in common with US experts.




A TREATY ON FREE TRADE BETWEEN GEORGIA AND ROMANIA WILL BE SIGNED IN SPRING 1998

By that time President of Romania is planned to visit Georgia. The preliminary agreement about it was achieved during the recent visit of President of Georgia to Romania.
