GAKHARIA RESIGNED FROM PREMIER’S POST, GARIBASHVILI IS NOMINATED AS NEW PREMIER
Giorgi Gakharia declared today about resignation from the post of Georgia’s Prime Minister. He linked this decision to the case of Nika Melia, chairman of the oppositional United National Movement.

Nika Shengelia, vice-president of Forecasting and Research Center, estimates that today’s resignation of Georgian Prime Minister is likely to activate a political factor of impact on lari exchange rate. “With high probability, we expect from the next Tuesday beginning of tangible fluctuations of lari rate against dollar”, Shengelia wrote on Facebook.

NBG SOLD $40M
National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared about sell of $40 million at the currency auction today. The average weighted exchange rate made up 3.3014 GEL/USD.
“GALT&TAGGART”: BECAUSE OF LOCKDOWN, GEORGIAN ECONOMY LOSES 16M LARI DAILY
Galt&Taggart said that because of lockdown (imposed by the country’s government in response to the COVID-19 outbreak), Georgian economy loses 16 million lari daily. In 2020, losses totaled to about 1 billion lari, the company noted.
NBG: BANKING SECTOR REPRESENTATIVES EXPECT A SLIGHT INCREASE IN INTEREST RATES ON LOANS IN FOREIGN CURRENCY
Referring to survey on credit conditions, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that representatives of Georgian banking sector expect a slight increase in interest rates on loans, issued in foreign currency. According to the same survey, representatives of the banking sector expect in the current quarter a slight increase in demand on business loans and a slight decrease in demand on retail loans, NBG said.
IN 2020, NUMBER OF COLD STORAGES IN GEORGIA INCREASED 2.2 TIMES
Sakstat reported that at the end of 2020, there were 168 cold storages operating in Georgia. If compared with 2019, the number has increased by 92 (i.e. 2.2 times).
IN 2020, NUMBER OF GRAIN ELEVATORS IN GEORGIA INCREASED 2.4 TIMES
Sakstat reported that at the end of 2020, there were 50 grain elevators operating in Georgia. If compared with 2019, the number has increased by 29 (i.e. 2.4 times).
IN 2020, SLAUGHTERHOUSES IN GEORGIA INCREASED BY 6 IN NUMBER
Sakstat reported that at the end of 2020, there were 100 slaughterhouses operating in Georgia. If compared with 2019, the number has increased by 6 (i.e. by 6.4%).
