    CHAIR OF SUPREME COURT IS APPOINTED

    On March 17, Nino Kadagidze was appointed the chair of Georgian Supreme Court. Her candidacy was supported by 82 MPs (in total, there are 150 MPs in Georgian Parliament).

    AIMING MITIGATION OF CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC IMPACT, GEORGIA ASKS HELP FROM DONORS

    At the joint news briefing, held today by National Bank of Georgia (NBG) president Koba Gvenetadze, Georgia’s Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani and IMF resident representative for Georgia Selim Cakir, Georgia’s intention to attract additional financial resources from donors was announced.

    As Gvenetadze said, at this stage, the IMF was addressed with request of increase Georgia’s access to financial resources within the IMF ongoing program (3-year Extended Fund Facility, which comes to the end in April 2021) for mitigation of consequences of coronavirus pandemic.


    NBG LEFT THE MONETARY POLICY RATE INTACT

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared that its Monetary Policy Committee decided today to left the refinancing rate without change, the. Respectively, the rate still makes up 9%.


    NBG: FACTORS, AFFECTING INFLATION TOWARDS GROWTH, AS WELL AS TOWARDS DECREASE, SHOW THEMSELVES

    Factors, affecting inflation towards growth, as well as towards decrease, show themselves, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared.

    According to previous forecast, it was expected that inflation will decrease until end of the year, NBG noted.


    NBG PRESIDENT: NO DANGER THREATENS TO BANKING SECTOR

    “The financial sector meets the given challenge prepared”, president of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Koba Gvenetadze declared, speaking today about influence of coronavirus pandemic.

    Banking sector of the country “is threatened by no danger”, Gvenetadze assured.


    MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE: NO DANGER OF FOOD DEFICIT EXISTS IN THE COUNTRY, BUT PANIC DEMAND IS FIXED

    In spite of absence of any danger of food deficit in the country, panic demand and uncontrolled purchases are often fixed, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili declared. That caused certain interruptions in offering of some types of unpacked cereals in supermarkets and retail shops, he pointed.


    MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE: INSURANCE MECHANISM IS DEVELOPED FOR STABILITY OF FOOD PRICES

    Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili declared that in order to maintain stability of prices of essential food products, a mechanism is developed, which ensures financial and currency risks for importers.

    The mechanism concerns products, which are in biggest demand, Davitashvili noted.

    EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF “HUB GEORGIA”: BECAUSE OF TERMINATION OF WORK OF SHARE TAXIS, PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS OVERLOADED THAT PROMOTES SPREAD OF THE VIRUS

    Vaso Urushadze, executive director of HUB Georgia, termination of work of share taxis in Tbilisi by decision of Georgian government caused switch of passengers’ flow to subway and municipal buses that led to a collapse in rush hours.

    Municipal buses, the subway became overloaded and all this increases risk of infection of people and promotes coronavirus spread, Urushadze specified.
