ECONOMY MINISTER: ECONOMY IS HIT NOT BY RESTRICTIONS, BUT UNCONTROLLED SPREAD OF THE VIRUS

Natia Turnava, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, declared that “Economy is hit not by restrictions, but uncontrolled spread of the virus”. “During uncontrolled spread of the virus, enterprises cannot work”, she pointed.




IN MAY 2021, GEORGIA TO HOST ADB ANNUAL MEETING

Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that its next annual meeting will be held on May 2-5, 2021 in Georgia.

Georgian Finance Ministry specified that part in the event will be taken by about 5,000 high-rank guests.




GNERC MEMBER TO HEAD ENERGY REGULATORS REGIONAL ASSOCIATION

Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission (GNERC) reported that its member Maya Melikidze is elected a chair of Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) for a period of 2 years. The decision was made at the meeting of general assembly of ERRA on September 17.

IN Q2, GEORGIAN GDP REDUCED BY 12.3%

Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s GDP in current prices amounted in the 2^nd quarter to 11.21 billion lari. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has reduced by 12.3%, while deflator increased by 6.3%, Georgian statistics service pointed.




A NUMBER OF AMENDMENTS MADE TO LAW “ON COMPETITION”

On September 16, Georgian Parliament adopted in third (final) hearing draft of amendments to the law “On Competition”.

As Competition Agency said, the amendments were drafted with assistance of local and international experts according to one of requirements of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU (DCFTA).




REHABILITATION OF ZUGDIDI-ANAKLIA ROAD SECTION IS STARTED

Georgian Roads Department declared about start of rehabilitation of 3.4-km section of Zugdidi-Anaklia motor road of domestic importance. The work is planned to complete in June 2021.




ACCORDING TO LATEST DATA, EXPORT OF APPLES INCREASED 5 TIMES Y-O-Y, WHILE OF HAZELNUT – BY 58%, PEACHES – BY 88%

Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that 776 t of apples were exported from the country as of September 17, exceeding 5 times indicator of the same period of 2019.

Major countries of the export are Russia (722.3 t), Kazakhstan (51.4 t), Armenia (2.5 t), etc.

“GREEN ALTERNATIVE”: GEORGIA’S MINING SECTOR STRATEGY IS NOT THE STATE POLICY, ADOPTED WITH PARTICIPATION OF STAKEHOLDERS

Environmental organization Green Alternative estimates that Georgia’s mining sector strategy “is not a national policy adopted with participation of stakeholders; therefore, it must be revoked”. The document was approved recently by Georgian government.
