    THE EU CONTINUES SUPPORT OF PUBLIC SERVICE REFORM IN GEORGIA

    Within the new “Twinning” project, the EU continues support of public service reform in Georgia, Georgian government declared.

    The matter concerns the twinning project between Lithuania and Georgia, which is implemented through financing of the EU.


    VACANCY OF PUBLIC DEFENDER OF CONSUMERS’ INTERESTS IN SPHERE OF COMMUNICATIONS IS ANNOUNCED

    Competition for selection of public defender of consumers’ interests, operating under Georgian National Communication Commission, is announced. Deadline for application expires on February 24.

    DEPUTY ECONOMY MINISTER: IN 2018, NUMBER ON EMPLOYEES FOR THE FIRST TIME EXCEEDED NUMBER OF SELF-EMPLOYED

    In 2018, unemployment rate decreased in comparison with previous year by 1.2 percentage points (pp) and made up 12.7%, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Ekaterina Mikabadze reported, referring to data of Sakstat. This is “the lowest rate for the last 15 years”, she noted.


    PARLIAMENTARY MINORITY LEADER: INTRODUCTION OF BANKING REGULATION CUT PURCHASE BY INSTALLMENTS OF HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES BY 70-75%

    “Introduction of banking regulation cut purchase by installments of household appliances by 70-75%”, parliamentary minority leader David Bakradze declared at the plenary session of Georgian Parliament today. That “created danger of bankruptcy of shops and turning persons, occupied there, in unemployed”, the MP pointed.


    RESULTS OF “BDO” RESEARCH: 100 BENEFICIARIES OF “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM CREATED IN 2014-2018 GDP OF 164M LARI

    Today, BDO presented results of analysis of efficiency of components of technical support and accessibility of financing of industrial part of “Produce in Georgia” state program. The research was conducted by order of Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry’s Agency Produce in Georgia.


    EIB-ALLOCATED 250M EUR TO BE DIRECTED TO ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze declared that 250 million EUR, allocated by European Investment Bank (EIB), will be directed to specific projects of road infrastructure. The matter concerns projects of construction/rehabilitation of Rustavi – Red Bridge and Rustavi-Sadakhlo highways.


    FAO REPRESENTATION: WORK ON NEW STRATEGY FOR FIGHT AGAINST THE FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE IS CONDUCTED

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, National Food Agency and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), together with donors and international experts, are working on new strategy on fight against a foot-and-mouth disease, declared FAO representation in Georgia.

    The representation said that the strategy is focused on needs of Georgia and envisages gradual introduction of compensation policy.


    IMPLEMENTATION OF PROGRAM ON ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE IS STARTED

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture declared about start of implementation of the 7-year program on adaptation to climate change. As the Ministry noted, cost of the program makes up $70 million.
