    GEORGIA’S INVESTMENT ENVIRONMENT AND OPPORTUNITIES WERE CONSIDERED AT THE MEETING WITH THE US ASSISTANT TRADE REPRESENTATIVE

    On July 18, meeting with the Assistant United States Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East Dan Mullaney took place in Tbilisi Science and Technology Park, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

    The parties considered Georgia’s investment environment and opportunities, the Ministry said.


    GEORGIA AND UKRAINE DISCUSSED COOPERATION PROSPECTS IN TRANSPORT SPHERE

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that Deputy Minister Giorgi Cherkezishvili met on July 17 with Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Ukraine’s national secretary of TRACECA (transport corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) Viktor Dovgan.

    At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects of bilateral, as well as multilateral cooperation in transport sphere, Georgian Ministry said.


    CUSTOMS ADMINISTRATIONS OF GEORGIA, AZERBAIJAN AND TURKEY AGREED ON COOPERATION DEEPENING

    Customs administrations of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey adopted the joint declaration, according to which they agreed on main directions of cooperation deepening. The document was signed in Baku today, Georgia Finance Ministry reported.

    IN JANUARY-JUNE, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO THE EU INCREASED Y-O-Y BY 30.4%, WHILE IMPORT FROM THE EU – BY 6.3%

    Sakstat reported that Georgia’s trade turnover with EU countries amounted in January-June to $1.3 billion, increasing by 10.9% year-on-year.

    At that, Georgia’s export to the EU made up $294.7 million (year-on-year growth – 30.4%), while import from these countries – $1.01 billion (growth – 6.3%).


    IN JANUARY-JUNE, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO THE CIS INCREASED Y-O-Y BY 61.2%, WHILE IMPORT FROM THESE COUNTRIES – BY 25.2%

    Sakstat reported that Georgia’s trade turnover with CIS countries amounted in January-June to $1.54 billion, increasing by 345.4% year-on-year.

    At that, Georgia’s export to the CIS made up $474.1 million (year-on-year growth – 61.2%), while import from these countries – $1.07 billion (growth – 25.2%).


    EXPECTED WHEAT CROP MAKES 260,500 T

    Expected volume of wheat crop makes up 260,500 t, i.e. 3.1 t per ha, Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili declared at the press conference today, while commenting on the course of grain harvesting. Expected volume of barley makes up 110,000 t, i.e. 2.5 t per ha.


    AGRICULTURE MINISTER: SERIOUS CHALLENGES APPEARED THIS YEAR IN HAZELNUT SECTOR

    “There are serious challenges in hazelnut sector this year, which have been faced by many countries of the world, including Georgia”, Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili declared.

    “The 1st stage of spraying of plants against the widespread pest, tortoise beetles, is finished”, the Minister reported at the press conference today.


    THE GOVERNMENT: TERRITORY ADJACENT TO DAM OF “ENGURHES” WILL BECOME THE TOURIST ZONE

    Georgia government declared that territory adjacent to arch dam of EngurHES will become a tourist zone, which will serve 400,000 tourists annually.

    Estimated volume of investments in construction works makes up about 50 million lari, the government said, noting that in order to attract this sum, negotiations with potential investors are already started.

    “HEIDELBERGCEMENT GEORGIA” TO INVEST AT LEAST 70M EUR IN MODERNIZATION

    LLC HeidelbergCement Georgia will invests at least 70 million EUR in modernization of clinker’s roasting line at its factory in Kaspi (Shida Kartli region). Deadline for that end is set at July 1, 2019.

    PRIVILEGES, OFFERED BY BANKS TO VICTIMS OF THE FIRE, DISCUSSED IN NBG

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported about meeting, held today, at which commercial banks presented summarized information on banking liabilities of persons, who were affected by several recent fires.

    “At the meeting today, we discussed privileges, offered by commercial banks to victims”, president of NBG Koba Gvenetadze declared after the meeting.
