    THE GOVERNMENT IS AUTHORIZED TO INTRODUCE RESTRICTIONS WITHOUT DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY

    Georgian Parliament supported today in first hearing draft amendments to the law “On Public Health”, which authorize the government to introduce restrictions without declaration of state of emergency (and, respectively, without approval of the Parliament). The draft was supported by 80 MPs, while 3 voted contra.


    PRIME MINISTER: AFTER LIFT OF STATE OF EMERGENCY, CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS WILL BE NECESSARY IN THE COUNTRY

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia pointed that after lift of state of emergency, certain restrictions will be still necessary in the country. “Unreasoned, at-once cancellation of those restrictions, which allowed us to manage the virus effectively, is irresponsible step”, he declared at the government meeting today.

    NBG SOLD $40M

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared about selling of $40 million at the currency auction today. Average weighted exchange rate made up 3.1915 GEL/USD.


    IN Q1, AVERAGE INTEREST RATE DECREASED BY 0.3 PP Q-O-Q, WHILE INCREASED BY 1.1 PP Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that average interest rate on banking credits as of end of the 1st quarter made up 10.5%.

    The rate as of end of December 2019 made up 10.8%, while as of end of the 1st quarter of 2019 – 11.6%.


    IN Q1, CATTLE POPULATION INCREASED BY 1.9% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which cattle population in Georgia at the end of the 1st quarter made up 973,500 heads. If compared with the same period of 2019, the population has increased by 1.9%.


    IN Q1, MILK PRODUCTION INCREASED BY 5% Y-O-Y, WHILE MEAT PRODUCTION DECREASED BY 0.6%

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s milk production in the 1st quarter made up 107 million l. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 5%.


    IN Q1, EXPORT OF CATTLE INCREASED BY 5.2% Y-O-Y, OF POULTRY – 2.3 TIMES

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s export of cattle in the 1st quarter made up 16,200 heads. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 5.2%.


    THE GOVERNMENT APPROVED TECHNICAL REGULATION ON ELECTRIC AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES’ WASTE MANAGEMENT

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that at the meeting of the country’s government today, technical regulation on management of waste of electric and electronic devices, oils, tires, batteries and accumulators was considered and approved. The document was prepared in a format of Extended Producer Responsibility, the Ministry noted.

    ECONOMY MINISTER: “BAKHVIHES” WILL BE BUILT WITH AMERICAN INVESTMENTS

    Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava declared that American investors are going to implement project of BakhviHES. The project, envisaging construction of 12-MW hydroelectric station in Chokhatauri municipality of Guria region, is at the stage of feasibility study.
