    ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR EXCHANGE OF PERMITS FOR FREIGHT ROAD TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN UKRAINE AND GEORGIA TO BE CREATED

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported about forthcoming development of electronic information system about exchange of permits for international freight road transportation between Ukraine and Georgia. The corresponding memorandum was signed in Tbilisi on April 22.


    THE EU HANDED OVER LABORATORY EQUIPMENT TO GEORGIAN INTERIOR MINISTRY’S FORENSIC-CRIMINALISTICS DEPARTMENT

    On April 20, the EU handed over laboratory equipment (gas chromatography/mass spectrometry system) worth $246,000 to the Forensic-Criminalistics Department of Georgian Interior Ministry, reported the EU representation.

    This equipment was provided under the EU-funded “SAFE” program, in partnership with the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

    NBG DEFINED CRITERIA FOR NON-BANKING INSTITUTIONS’ INCLUSION IN OPEN BANKING

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announced that the first stage of open banking for commercial banks is already available from March 31.

    The next stage of open banking envisages access to open banking for non-banking institutions, NBG said.


    IN Q1, NUMBER OF DEBIT CARDS DECREASED BY 1.4% Q-O-Q, BUT INCREASED BY 3.1% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of March 31, there were 6.2 million debit cards in circulation in the country. This number has decreased by 1.4%, if compared with the 4th quarter of 2020, but increased by 3.1%, if compared with the 1st quarter of 2020.


    IN Q1, NUMBER OF CREDIT CARDS DECREASED BY 2.3% Q-O-Q AND 4.3% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of March 31, there were 548,657 credit cards in circulation in the country. This number has decreased by 2.3%, if compared with the 4th quarter of 2020, and by 4.3%, if compared with the 1st quarter of 2020.


    IN Q1, GEORGIA’S IMPORT OF BITUMEN DECREASED BY 28.7% Y-O-Y

    Georgian Oil-Products Importers Union reported that the country’s import of oil bitumen amounted in the 1st quarter to 10,200 t. If compared with the same period of 2020, the volume has decreased by 28.7%.


    MULTIFUNCTIONAL REGIONAL BEEKEEPING CENTER OPENED IN TBILISI

    On April 22, multifunctional regional beekeeping center was opened in Tbilisi, Tbilisi City Hall reported. The center was built as a result of cooperation between the Czech Development Agency, Tbilisi City Hall and the Association Agora.

    ECONOMY MINISTER: WITH ASSISTANCE “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM, “FACTORY-1900” PLANS TO INCREASE PRODUCTION 5 TIMES

    Natia Turnava, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, visited today one of the beneficiaries of the state program “Produce in Georgia” – Factory-1900. Enterprise of the company, producing packaging materials, is located in Mtskheta municipality.
