    GEORGIA BECAME CHAIRMAN COUNTRY OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE

    Today, Georgia became the chairman country of Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which post the country will occupy until May 15, 2020.

    Irakli Chikovani, adviser in international issues and press speaker of Georgian Prime Minister, declared that this is an opportunity for Georgia to strengthen that “historical choice”, which the country made 20 years ago.


    “AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL”: GEORGIAN AUTHORITIES HAVE TO GUARANTEE FREEDOM OF PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY

    “As the anti-government rally continues in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, the authorities must restrain from using unnecessary force against peaceful protesters”, Amnesty International declared in the statement released today.

    The organization stressed that “Force must only be used if non-violent means are unlikely to be effective and law enforcement officials must seek to minimize harm and injury”.


    GEORGIA AND CZECH REPUBLIC DISCUSSED DEEPENING OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that need of deepening of bilateral cooperation was discussed at the meeting of Georgian-Czech intergovernmental economic commission. The commission held its 5th meeting on November 26 in Prague (Czech Republic).


    DIRECTOR OF MARITIME TRANSPORT AGENCY: GEORGIAN PORTS MEET PREPARED THE SECURITY AUDIT OF 2020

    Tamar Ioseliani, director of Georgian Maritime Transport Agency, said that every 2 years, the US Coast Guard examines observance of security standards in Georgian ports. She said that “during audit of 2018, Georgia received highest evaluation”.


    “TI GEORGIA”: IN GEORGIA, CERTAIN RULES CONCERNING OFFSHORE COMPANIES HAVE TO BE SURELY DEVELOPED

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, declared that certain rules concerning offshore companies have to be surely developed in Georgia.

    Georgia has to fulfill recommendations of Anti-Corruption Network of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and demand disclosure of owners of offshore companies in those cases, at least, when these companies participate in state procurements, state programs or projects of Georgian Partnership Fund, the organization indicated.

    ADB ALLOCATED 255.1M EUR TO GEORGIA

    Georgian Finance Ministry reported that Asian Development Bank (ADB) continues allocation of preferential financial resource for further development of East-West Highway (E60). Today, agreement on allocation of 255.1 million EUR was signed in Tbilisi.


    TBILISI MAYOR: MAJOR DIRECTIONS OF THE CITY BUDGET-2020 ARE INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS, SOCIAL SPHERE AND PUBLIC HEALTHCARE

    Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that infrastructure projects, social sphere and public healthcare remain the major directions of the capital budget for 2020 too.

    While stating this at the capital government meeting today, the Mayor stressed that in 2018, the budget of Tbilisi made up 920 million lari, while in 2019 – 1.1 billion lari.


    TBILISI CITY HALL STARTS DEVELOPMENT OF WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGY

    Tbilisi City Hall reported that development of strategy of waste management has started.

    At the capital government meeting today, the Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that EBRD already allocated grant for the strategy’s development, amounting to about 500,000 EUR.


    TBILISI MAYOR: SINCE 2020, REPLACEMENT OF EXISTING MINIBUSES WILL BEGIN

    Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that active communication with company Tbilisi Minibus is necessary in order to start replacement of existing minibuses in the capital since 2020. “Minibuses are in ownership of private company and as far back as during the previous authority, agreement was signed, which is valid until 2030”, he said, but pointed that he is not going to wait till 2030.
