    MONEYVAL REPORT ON GEORGIA: IMPROVEMENTS ARE SEEN IN AUTHORITY OF FINANCIAL MONITORING SERVICE, BUT OTHER SHORTAGES REMAIN

    In Georgia, there are improvements in authority of the Financial Monitoring Service, but other shortages remain, says the report published today by MONEYVAL, the Council of Europe’s anti-money laundering arm.

    MONEYVAL expects Georgia to report within a year on progress in implementation of relevant measures.


    NGOS CALL ON GEORGIAN AUTHORITIES TO ENSURE MONITORING OF THE OECD/ACN ANTI-CORRUPTION ENVIRONMENT IN 2023

    On November 17, the Steering Group of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Anti-Corruption Network (OECD/ACN) endorsed the 5th round monitoring assessment framework, which will examine the anti-corruption environment in OECD/ACN member countries, in which the Georgian government did not participate.

    This is reported in the statement, released by 4 Georgian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) – the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), TI Georgia (Georgian branch of Transparency International), Governance Monitoring Center (GMC) and Georgian Young Lawyers Association.

    NBG PRESIDENT: AFTER INTRODUCTION OF INFLATION TARGETING, AVERAGE INFLATION IN GEORGIA DECREASED

    In 1996-2008, inflation in Georgia made up 10.2% on average, says Koba Gvenetadze, president of National Bank of Georgia (NBG). After introduction of inflation targeting in the country (2009), the average inflation decreased, he indicates.


    GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT FORECASTS 10% ECONOMIC GROWTH IN 2022

    We have refined the forecast of economic growth and instead of 8.5%, we will have 10%, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared at the Georgian government meeting today. This means that we have double-digit economic growth for 2 consecutive years, he noted.


    IN 2023, 200M LARI WILL BE ALLOCATED FOR THE PROGRAM ON DEVELOPMENT OF NEW TOURIST LOCATIONS

    Next year, we will begin development of new tourist locations, including full rehabilitation of existing facilities, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared at the Georgian government meeting today. For this purpose, we allocate 200 million lari, he said.


    GEORGIAN PREMIER: UP TO 30,000 PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED UNDER THE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM FOR SOCIALLY UNPROTECTED

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili reported that up to 30,000 people are employed under the state program for socially unprotected.

    Although, “we have about 200,000-300,000 able-bodied socially unprotected people”, and “our desire is to employ all these people”, the Premier declared at the government meeting today.


    FROM JULY 2023, ASSISTANCE FOR SOCIALLY UNPROTECTED CHILDREN WILL INCREASE

    Starting from July 1, 2023, assistance for socially unprotected children will amount to 200 lari, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared at the Georgian government meeting today. 2 years ago, this assistance made up 50 lari, he noted.


    RESIDENTIAL APARTMENTS TO BE BUILT FOR 7,000 IDP FAMILIES

    “We are starting a large-scale project – construction of apartments for internally displaced persons (IDPs)”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili declared at the Georgian government meeting today.

    The Premier specified that this project envisages construction of apartments designed for 7,000 IDP families.
