    FOREIGN MINISTRIES OF GEORGIA AND FRANCE HOLDING THE NEXT ROUND OF CONSULTATIONS

    The 3rd round of consultations between the French and Georgian Foreign Ministries has started in Paris today. The First Deputy Minister Giorgi Burduli represents the Georgian side on the negotiations.


    JOHN-MALKHAZ SHALIKASHVILI IS GOING TO VISIT GEORGIA IN MID JUNE

    The former head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is going to visit the family estate and participate in the opening ceremony of the reconstructed family church. This church, built by Shalikashvili’s grand father, was destroyed by Bolsheviks in 1921.


    GEORGIA THINKS THAT RUSSIA IS TO REPAY $10B FOR THE WITHDRAWN MILITARY EQUIPMENT

    The Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Revaz Adamia declared about Georgia’s intention to demand from Russia the compensation for the military equipment and the property of the former USSR withdrawn from Georgia in the early 90-ies. According to him, this question will be considered during the forthcoming Georgian-Russian negotiations on the military issues in June.


    FRACTION ABKHAZETI HAS LEFT THE PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY

    As it has been informed, 13 deputies of the fraction voted for this decision and only 3 – against. Abkhazia is not going to join the parliamentary opposition and intends to act independently.

    7 PEOPLE DIED IN THE MINI-BUS ACCIDENT

    The accident occurred on May 28 on the Tbilisi-Zugdidi-Sukhumi road at the administrative border of the Abkhaz Autonomy. As its has been informed, the mini-bus with 23 passengers lost the control and fell in the river.


    SUKHUMI AND NOVIY AFON RENAMING PROJECT BEING CONSIDERED IN ABKHAZIA

    According to the Sukhumi semi-official newspaper Respublika Abkhazia, the professor of the Sukhumi State University Daur Marshan-dabad offers to rename Sukhumi as Amra and Noviy Afon as Amza. In his project, presented to the President of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia, Marshan-dabad points out that new Abkhaz names (“Amra” – the sun, “Amza” – the moon) are shorter ones and consequently alteration of signs will require less funds.
