    EC PRESIDENT: “I SEE NO ALTERNATIVE TO CONTINUED IN-DEPTH ELECTORAL AND JUDICIAL REFORMS, AND FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS”

    “I see no alternative to continued in-depth electoral and judicial reforms, and free and fair local elections” in Georgia, declared Charles Michel, President of the European Council.

    He indicated also that he took note of the decision by Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream regarding the agreement of April 19 (agreement with the opposition, reached with mediation of Michel), as well as took note of “continued non-signature by United National Movement of the agreement”.


    PARLIAMENT’S CONFIDENCE GROUP DISCUSSED CYBER SECURITY ISSUES WITH INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS

    At the meeting on July 28, Georgian Parliament’s confidence group discussed issues of cyber security with American and British partners. While reported on the meeting, the Parliament noted that the group hosted international partners for the first time.

    OBLIGATION TO PAY VAT IN GEORGIA POSTPONED FOR FOREIGN DIGITAL SERVICE PROVIDERS UNTIL OCTOBER 1

    Obligation to pay VAT by foreign companies, providing digital services in Georgia, has been postponed until October 1, reported Georgian Finance Ministry.

    The Ministry indicated that the decision was made after negotiations with multinational companies (Booking, Google, Facebook, Netflix, Spotify, etc.).


    TBILISI MAYOR: PROJECT OF LED STREET LIGHTING WILL BE FUNDED WITH COST OF SAVED ELECTRICITY, AND NOT FROM THE BUDGET

    Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that in case of replacement of existing street lighting with LED lamps throughout the city, energy saving will make up 60-70%.

    “Our concept envisages replacement of these lamps by financing, attracted by private companies”, while “the [tender] winner company will be obliged to attract the amount and replace the lamps itself”, the Mayor said at the city government meeting on July 28.

    IN H1, 5 SYSTEMS ACCOUNTED FOR 81.5% OF REMITTANCES TO GEORGIA

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in total volume of foreign remittances to Georgia, made in the first half of this year, 5 systems accounted for 81.5%, or $882.5 million.

    RIA is on the first position, serving 20.3% of total volume, or $219.4 million.


    IN H1, 5 SYSTEMS ACCOUNTED FOR 91.2% OF REMITTANCES FROM GEORGIA

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in the 1st half of this year, 5 systems accounted for 91.2% of total volume of remittances from Georgia abroad, or for $125.97 million.

    Golden Crown is still on the first position, through which 47.7% of total remittances, or $65.8 million, were transferred from Georgia.


    ECONOMY MINISTRY: “TOYOTA TSUSHO CORPORATION” BECAME INTERESTED IN GEORGIA’S ENERGY SECTOR

    Toyota Tsusho Corporation (part of Toyota Group) is interested in Georgia’s energy sector, including production of so-called “green hydrogen”, reported Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. Meeting with delegation of this Japanese company took place at the Ministry today.


    REGULATING COMMISSION FINED “ENERGOPRO GEORGIA” WITH 20,000 LARI

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission declared that EnergoPro Georgia (regional energy distributor) has been fined with 20,000 lari in favor of the budget.

    The Commission explained that the reason is that the company entered incomplete data in electronic log of the Commission.
