“TI GEORGIA”: IN FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION, GEORGIA STAGNATES FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS
In its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 2022, Transparency International places Georgia 41st among 180 countries with 56 points (out of possible 100), which is 1 point higher compared with 2021.
A one-point change in CPI is considered statistically insignificant, while Georgia’s score has not improved significantly since 2012 (i.e. after Georgian Dream came to power), TI Georgia (Georgian branch of Transparency International) pointed, noting that this means that the country has not taken effective steps against corruption in the last 10 years.
“SAKSTAT” ESTIMATES THAT GEORGIA’S GDP GROWTH IN 2022 MADE UP 10.1%
Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s real GDP growth in December 2022, if compared with the same month of 2021, made up 11%. The average rate for 2022 makes up 10.1%.
“TBC CAPITAL”: EASING OF MONETARY POLICY IN GEORGIA WILL BEGIN MOST LIKELY IN MARCH
TBC Capital forecasts that easing of monetary policy in Georgia will begin most likely in March. Although we do not rule out decrease of the monetary policy rate already this week, at the Monetary Policy Committee’s meeting on February 1, the company says in its weekly review.
IN 2022, NUMBER OF VISITS TO GEORGIA FROM RUSSIA INCREASED BY 410.5%
Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that in 2022, there were 1.09 million visits to Georgia from Russia (23% of the total number of international travelers’ visits to Georgia, the 1st position in this term). If compared with 2021, the number has increased by 410.5%, though is still by 26.1% less compared with pre-pandemic 2019.
IN 2022, VISITS TO GEORGIA FROM EU COUNTRIES INCREASED BY 96.6% Y-O-Y
Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that in 2022, there were 271,266 visits to Georgia from the EU countries (5.8% of the total number of international travelers’ visits to the country). If compared with 2021, the number has increased by 96.6%, while is still by 43.7% less than the showing of pre-pandemic 2019.
IN 2022, 66.4% OF INTERNATIONAL VISITS TO GEORGIA WERE CARRIED OUT BY LAND
Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that in 2022, 3.12 million international visits were made to Georgia by land, making up 66.4% of the total number.
If compared with 2021, the indicator has increased by 278%, though is still by 45.9% less compared with pre-pandemic 2019.
INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT CONSULTANTS GET ACQUAINTED WITH GEORGIA’S POTENTIAL
For the first time, 2 international investment consultants, so-called location managers Peter Ryan and Michael Zdanovsky, are on a visit to Georgia, the State Agency Produce in Georgia reported.
According to the Agency, the several-day visit aims to familiarize with Georgian sector of business process outsourcing (BPO) and the country’s investment potential in this direction.
