COMMAND-STAFF TRAINING OF AZERBAIJAN, GEORGIA AND TURKEY STARTING ON JULY 1
According to the scenario, the joint peacekeeping subdivision for the oil pipeline protection is to be created during circumstances of conflicts that might burst out on the territories of these countries. 20 servicemen from Georgia will participate in this 10-day training, going to be held on the Turkish territory.
UNIONS WITHIN CIS WILL NOT LEAD TO ITS DISSOLUTION, YURI YAROV THINKS
The Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, who arrived in Tbilisi yesterday, while commenting on the creation of the Russian-Belarus Union, declared that its creation had a previous experience. He named as example the Customs Union, Union of Central-Asian States and GUUAM and noted that open principle of such unions’ creation would not facilitate to the CIS dissolution.

PARLIAMENT HAS UNANIMOUSLY SUPPORTED BAKU-TBILISI-CEYHAN OIL PIPE LINE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The Georgian Parliament has unanimously ratified (177 deputies voted pro, against – 0) the package of intergovernmental agreements on the main export oil pipeline project Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan at the plenary session today. It includes the agreement on the crude oil transportation via the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey as well as the agreement between the potential investors and the territory owner-states, initialed in Washington, DC on April 28, 2000.
GEORGIAN STATE MINISTER AND RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSSED ECONOMIC COOPERATION PROBLEMS OF TWO COUNTRIES
As it was noted at the meeting held between the State Minister of Georgia Giorgi Arsenishvili and the ambassador of Russia in Georgia Felix Stanevsky, the Georgian-Russian economic relations “are rather politicized sometimes”. IFC CONFIRMED NEW 3-YEAR PROGRAM ON TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO ARMENIA, BELARUS, GEORGIA, RUSSIA AND UKRAINE
According to the information delivered from Washington, DC today $4.2 million will be allocated to each of these countries annually in the framework of the confirmed IFC plan, starting from July 1, 2000. Besides, this corporation, included in the WB group, is going to attract the donor financing within the range of $15 million annually.

The Parliament has confirmed the proposal advanced by the Finance Ministry to postpone the date for introducing key directions (from the envisaged June 1 to August 1) and make appropriate amendments to the legislation. The necessity to form “a real budget” was named as the cause prompting the decision.

PROBATION PERIOD FOR JUDGES EXTENDED UP TO 18 MONTHS
At the plenary session on May 30, the Parliament confirmed the Justice Council’s proposal on a number of amendments to the legislation. Namely, according to the present acting system, judges who pass qualifying tests are attached to courts for 6 months; it is accepted to extend this term up to 18 months.
DOCTORS FOR THE LIBERAL LAW “ON ARTIFICIAL INTERRUPTION OF PREGNANCY”, CHURCH AGAINST IT
The bill, envisaging the liberalization of present acting rules (descending from the Soviet period), is to be considered by the Parliament of the country after 3 months. Its authors, with reference to international statistics, note that the tightening of the law on the artificial abortion will not lead to its reduction.
