    GEORGIAN PREMIER: MEGOBARI ACT ADOPTED BY THE US REGARDING GEORGIA DIRECTLY CONTAINS BLACKMAIL

    MEGOBARI Act adopted by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives “contains blackmail in a direct form”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared to journalists.

    The Mobilization and Enhancement Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act, or MEGOBARI Act, envisages sanctions against those Georgian officials, law enforcement officers and individuals, who advanced the so-called “Russian Law” (Georgia’s law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”).


    “ANAKLIA DEVELOPMENT CONSORTIUM”: IN THE INTERESTS OF CITIZENS, GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT HAD TO SUPPORT, NOT UNDERMINE THE ANAKLIA PORT PROJECT

    The Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) still considers that in the interests of citizens, the Georgian government “had to play a supportive role, and not undermine” the project of deep-water port construction in Anaklia.

    In case of the project implementation by ADC, construction and use of the Anaklia port “would serve to the country’s integration with the West and not with Russia or China”, ADC said in a statement released on July 30.

    IN JUNE, GEORGIA’S ANNUAL RATE OF REAL GDP GROWTH MADE UP 7.5%

    In June, compared to the corresponding period last year, Georgia’s real GDP growth made up 7.5%, Sakstat reported (estimation). For the first 4 months of the year, the average rate of growth makes up 9%.


    NBG RAISED GEORGIA’S GDP GROWTH FORECAST FOR 2024

    In the first half of this year, economic activity in Georgia increased more than expected, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) said in the monetary policy report published on July 30.

    Against the background of high activity, previous real GDP growth forecast for 2024 (5.6%) was revised and, according to current estimates, makes up 6.8%, NBG said.


    NBG: IN 2024, MODERATE WORSENING OF CURRENT ACCOUNT BALANCE IS EXPECTED

    Against the background of high economic activity, growth of import is expected, as a result of which a moderate deterioration in the current account balance is expected in 2024 – to about 5.6% of GDP, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) said in the monetary policy report, published on July 30. In the 1st quarter, the current account deficit made up 5% of GDP.


    GEORGIAN MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE: THIS YEAR, EXPORT OF BLUEBERRIES AMOUNTED TO $26M

    This year, blueberries worth a record $26 million were exported from Georgia, declared Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture. This year, 500 t of Georgian blueberries were exported to the EU market, he noted.


    TBILISI MAYOR: ABOUT 20M LARI WILL BE SPENT ON ARRANGING RECREATIONAL AREA IN VARKETILI

    In Varketili, on the territory of the so-called military town (Abashvili Street), a recreational space will be arranged, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared at the city government meeting today. The park will occupy area 12 ha, he said.

    FROM SEPTEMBER 1, MOTORCYCLES AND MOPEDS WILL BE ALLOWED TO MOVE ALONG BUS LANES IN TBILISI

    In follow up of the relevant legislative amendments, adopted by Georgian Parliament, Tbilisi City Hall has drafted a decree defining the conditions for movement of motorcycles or mopeds along bus lanes in the city. The decree will be submitted to the Tbilisi Sakrebulo (city council) for approval.
