    REZONANSI: “SWISS CUSTOMS OFFICERS WILL START FREIGHT MONITORING ON OCCUPIED TERRITORIES IN MARCH”

    December 7, 2018 - Under Georgian-Russian agreement of 2011, Swiss company SGS begins 3-month preparatory work for start of monitoring of freights on 3 Russian and 3 Georgian customs checkpoints, the newspaper reports with reference to Russian Foreign Ministry.

    According to the Russian side, Moscow fulfilled obligations on allocations for the monitoring company as far as June, while Tbilisi – only after the 2nd round of presidential elections in the country, on November 30.


    TABULA: “IN KUTAISI, IN THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING WORTH 330 MILLION, ANALOGUE OF THE INTERIOR MINISTRY’S SERVICE CENTER WILL BE OPENED”

    December 7, 2018 - As far the Parliament will not be located in Kutaisi anymore, the government plans to place in its building worth 330 million lari an analog of Tbilisi service center of the Interior Ministry, Tabula reports.

    According to Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili, that will be a regional police hub of Western Georgia, which will combine various police services.


    REZONANSI: “ADVERTISING OF GAMBLING WILL BE FORBIDDEN ALMOST EVERYWHERE”

    December 6, 2018 - According to the draft amendments to law “On Advertising”, placement of outdoor advertising of gambling is forbidden within 200 m from childcare, educational and medical institutions, culture and sport organizations. As the newspaper notes, initial version envisaged prohibition within 100 m.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “STATE DEPARTMENT – WE ARE CONCERN BECAUSE OF VIOLATIONS, RECORDED DURING ELECTIONS”

    December 6, 2018 - The US Department of State welcomes holding of presidential elections in Georgia without obstacles, but expresses concern in connection with numerous violations, which were recorded during elections, Netgazeti.Ge reports.

    As the article notes, the State Department official representative declared this at the briefing, held in connection with a meeting of North Atlantic Council.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “HOW MANAGED “GEORGIAN DREAM” TO RECEIVE BY 530,000 VOTES MORE IN THE 2ND ROUND”

    December 4, 2018 - In the 1st round of presidential elections in Georgia, about 1.64 million voters took part, while their number in the 2nd round made up 1.98 million, Netgazeti.Ge reports, pointing that opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze won 780,635 votes in the 2nd tour, i.e. by 180,000 votes more, than in the 1st tour, while Salome Zurabishvili, backed by ruling Georgian Dream – 1.15 million voices, i.e. by 532,053 more.

    The article brings comments on the 2nd round, made by Tbilisi State University professor Iago Kachkachishvili, director of Caucasus Research Resources Center Koba Turmanidze and chairman of Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development Gia Nodia.

    REZONANSI: “SEQUESTER OF THE BUDGET – THE GOVERNMENT COULD NOT FIND THE OTHER WAY”

    December 7, 2018 - Draft amendments to Georgia’s state budget-2018 cut by 269 million lari expenditure of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, which will make up now 1.55 billion lari, the newspaper reports.

    Volume of long-term preferential credits for investment projects’ financing decreases by 321 million lari and will amount to 915.8 million lari, with partial redistribution of projects on next years.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “WHY CURRENT BUDGET OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE MINISTRY DECREASES BY 269M LARI”

    December 6, 2018 - This year’s budget of Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure is decreased by 269 million lari to 1.55 billion lari, the newspaper reports.

    As the article specifies, the decrease is connected with delay of implementation of large infrastructure projects, including construction of Rikoti section of East-West highway and Kvesheti-Kobi section of North-South highway.

    December 4, 2018 - According to Robin Hood Index 2018, published by Bloomberg, property of the only Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili would be enough for public expenditures of the country within 430 days, the magazine reports.

    According to the IMF, Georgia’s daily public expenditures amount to $13.5 million.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “FINANCING OF ADMINISTRATION OF GEORGIAN PRESIDENT IS CONSIDERABLY REDUCED”

    December 4, 2018 - According to the final draft of Georgia’s state budget-2019, financing of the President’s administration is reduced by 40% to 6 million lari, the magazine reports. Staff of the administration is reduced from 140 to 60 people.

    December 4, 2018 - Levan Akhvlediani, director general of Anaklia Development Consortium, declared that within visit to Georgia, president of the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB) Dmitry Pankin has acquainted with plan of deep-water port construction in Anaklia and ongoing works.

    At the meeting with the BSTDB president, “possibility of financing of Anaklia project” was considered, Akhvlediani pointed.

    REZONANSI: “WILL DEBTORS MOVE FROM “BLACK LIST” TO CLAWS OF USURERS?”

    December 3, 2018 - Despite promises of the Finance Minister, it is not known so far to whom write-off of debts will concern, the newspaper says.

    As it appeared, credit institutions are submitting currently lists of debtors to Cartu fund (created by Bidzina Ivanishvili, billionaire leader of ruling Georgian Dream) that raises doubts among financiers, including on prospect of withdrawal of 600,000 debtors from “the black list”, the article specifies.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER: THE DEBT FORGIVENESS WILL BEGIN ON DECEMBER 15, AS IT WAS PROMISED”

    December 3, 2018 - Despite scales of the project of debt forgiveness, the mentioned process will begin on December 15 and will be completed on December 31, as it was promised, Georgia’s Deputy Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili declared. Currently, preparatory work is underway in the direction of formation of lists of debtors, he said.


    REZONANSI: “WRITE-OFF OF DEBTS IS UNDERWAY AND LISTS OF DEBTORS WILL BE PUBLISHED THIS WEEK – “CARTU””

    December 3, 2018 - A few days ago, information was spread that creation of the web page for those debtors, whose debts have to be written off, will not be ready by December 3, the newspaper says.

    However, Georgia’s Deputy Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili declared on December 2 that the process will not be postponed and debts will be nullified until December 31.

    FORBES GEORGIA: “10 COUNTRIES, WHICH CITIZENS SPEND MOST UPON VISIT TO GEORGIA”

    December 6, 2018 - Major part of international travelers arrives to Georgia from neighboring countries, however most of all money is spent by tourists from the UAE, Israel and Germany, the magazine reports.

    In the 3rd quarter, international visitors in Georgia spent 3.1 billion lari, so that average spending per visit made up 1,179 lari.
