    REZONANSI: “THE GOVERNMENT DECLARES FIGHT ON DUMPING”

    December 22, 2017 - “We work on submission of the anti-dumping legislation to the Parliament and, approximately, that will happen in near future”, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared.

    “We have to have the legislation, conforming to the best standards of the World Trade Organization, which will allow the state to take appropriate measures, when the matter concerns the unhealthy competition”, Kvirikashvili pointed.


    REZONANSI: “WHETHER THE PREMIER WILL BE REPLACED? – “KVIRIKASHVILI’S NERVES ARE VERY SUSPICIOUSLY SHATTERED””

    December 22, 2017 - Active talks about Giorgi Kvirikashvili’s replacement on post of the Prime Minister have started in media after he presented new structure of the government and nominated Giorgi Gakharia in the office of Interior Minister, the newspaper says.

    It was said then that Kvirikashvili will leave his post in next spring because of presidential elections, where he was suggested as the presidential candidate, while Gakharia was named as his successor, the article specifies.


    REZONANSI: “BIG EUROPEAN COMPANIES LOSE INTEREST TO GEORGIA”

    December 21, 2017 - Large European companies lose interest to Georgia, the newspaper says and points at quit from the local market of French banking group Societe Generale and possible sale of Georgian assets (mobile operator Geocell) by Scandinavian TeliaSonera.

    “At first sight, investments enter the country, but these are funds, which come from less developed countries or offshores, and nobody knows, what forces are behind them”, the article states.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “JANELIDZE: OUR GOAL IS PURCHASE OF EMBASSY BUILDINGS IN THE CAPITALS, PRIORITY FOR US”

    December 20, 2017 - Mikhail Janelidze, nominated for a post of the Foreign Minister, declared: “Our goal is purchase of [buildings for] embassies in those capital cities, which are priority for us”. “However, this decision has to be based on commercial decision – which would be more favorable – to maintain rent or to purchase”, he noted.


    LIBERALI: “MIKHAIL JANELIDZE: THE GOVERNMENT WILL DEVELOP ROAD MAP FOR INTEGRATION INTO THE EU”

    December 20, 2017 - At the committee hearing in the Parliament, nominee for a post of the Foreign Minister Mikhail Janelidze declared that the government of Georgia plans to create a road map on cooperation with the EU. The road map will include 4 directions, he noted.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “IN ICT INDEX, GEORGIA IS ON THE 74TH PLACE IN THE WORLD”

    December 19, 2017 - According to annual index of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Development of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Georgia occupies the 74th position among 179 countries. In comparison with the last year, Georgia’s rating has worsened by 1 position, the magazine reports.

    December 19, 2017 - Acting legislation allows Public Broadcaster to air commercial advertisement only upon broadcasting of sport events, international festivals and competitions, at the beginning and at the end of the broadcasting and during natural intervals.

    The Parliament has already approved in two readings legislative amendments, which add to this article the point, which allows sponsorship of entertainment events and TV series.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “QUESTIONS AROUND PENSION REFORM”

    December 18, 2017 - “Reformeter”, project of Policy Institute of International School of Economy at Tbilisi State University (ISET), estimated (at the beginning of October) that 38.8% of the plan of pension reform is already fulfilled.

    The plan is divided into 4 components, so in measures on institutional arrangement, 14.5% are fulfilled, in competence strengthening – 50%, infrastructure, necessary for the reform, and the budget – 11.4%; streamlining of legal framework – 72.6%.


    EUGEORGIA.INFO: “IN LAST 6 MONTHS, 5% OF AGRICULTURE STRATEGY FOR 2015-2020 IS FULFILLED”

    December 18, 2017 - “Reformeter”, project of Policy Institute of International School of Economy at Tbilisi State University (ISET), estimates that 74.9% of agriculture strategy for 2015-2020 is already fulfilled. At that, 5% of the strategy was fulfilled in last 6 months.

    December 22, 2017 - Statistician Soso Archvadze indicates that in Georgia, “nominally disposable income is growing, but with taking into account an inflation factor”. “However, if we exclude such expenses, which are not envisaged by rational behavior, then we will see reduction of disposable income”, he specifies.


    TABULA: “THE GOVERNMENT SPENT 335M FOR TRAVEL AND RESTAURANT EXPENSES IN 2013-2016”

    December 22, 2017 - In 2013-2016, the government spent 335 million lari on expenses of representation and travel, Tabula reports with reference to Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI).

    As the article notes, according to Georgia’s budgetary classification, expenses of representation include expenses on reception of guests, solemn lunch, excursion and cultural events, purchase of souvenirs, service of guests, etc.

    December 20, 2017 - Increase of water price is almost decided, the newspaper points.

    Giorgi Pangani, member of National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission, says that for water supply companies “3-year tariffs are established for the first time in our practice”.

    December 19, 2017 - In spite of the fact that the authorities updated vehicle fleet at the end of 2015, the Parliament unexpectedly announced tender for acquisition of new cars, the newspaper reports.

    For acquisition of cars, 855,000 lari is allocated.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “TENDER IS ANNOUNCED ON FULL REHABILITATION OF GELATI MONASTERY”

    December 18, 2017 - Georgian Municipal Development Fund announced tender worth 1.35 million lari on rehabilitation of The Holy Virgin church in Gelati monastery (12th century AD), Netgazeti.Ge reports. The project will be implemented through financing of the World Bank.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “FINANCING OF UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE PROGRAM INCREASED BY 40M LARI”

    December 18, 2017 - Referring to information of State Treasury, the magazine reports that this year’s plan of allocations of the Ministry of Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection is increased by 2 million lari and totals to 3.42 billion lari.

    As the article notes, the growth is caused mainly by increase of healthcare programs’ financing by 41 million lari, of which 40 million lari is added to universal healthcare program.

    TABULA: “OIL EXTRACTION IN GEORGIA DECREASED BY 4%”

    December 20, 2017 - During 2016, extraction of crude oil in Georgia made up 38,000 t, decreasing since 2015 by 4%, Tabula reports with reference to Sakstat. In Georgia, 16 oil fields and 1 gas field are discovered.


    REZONANSI: “ELECTRICITY WOULD NOT RISE IN PRICE, BUT MAINTENANCE OF WATER TARIFF IS DOUBTFUL”

    December 19, 2017 - In about a week, new consumer tariff will be established, the newspaper says.

    Giorgi Pangani, member of National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission, declares: “We think that tariff for electricity generation, would not grow on preliminary expectations”.

    December 18, 2017 - Georgian population will meet New Year with new tariffs for electricity and water, the newspaper states.

    Murman Margvelashvili, director in economic issues of non-governmental organization World Experience for Georgia (WEG), declares: “Many preconditions indicate that electricity tariff in Georgia would grow”.

    FORBES GEORGIA: “FRENCH EMBASSY RELEASES STATEMENT IN CONNECTION WITH “CITROEN GEORGIA””

    December 21, 2017 - Embassy of France released statement in connection with the company Citroen Georgia, the magazine reports.

    As the statement indicates, Citroen Georgia cannot be connected with the French brand Citroen as there was no and is no any legal connection between Automobiles Citroen SA and this legal entity.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “KAZAKHS WANT TO ACQUIRE “GEOCELL””

    December 20, 2017 - Supposedly, new owners of mobile operator Geocell would be Kazakhstan’s state company Kazakh Telecom and investment group Visor Group, the magazine reports with reference to the Swedish media.

    Both Kazakh Telecom and Visor Group have close ties with Kazakhstan’s President and his family, the magazine notes.

    FORBES GEORGIA: “EUROPEAN COMMISSION ESTIMATES GEORGIA’S PROCESS OF VISA LIBERALIZATION”

    December 22, 2017 - European Commission published new report on functioning of the visa-free travel for countries of the Eastern Partnership (Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine) and the Balkans.

    Concerning Georgia, the report specifies that showing of illegal stay in the EU of Georgian citizens decreased in 2016 by 3% in comparison with 2015, so that 5,240 such cases were recorded last year.

    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: ““CREDITINFO” ADDED 4 MILLION NEW CREDIT ENTRIES IN 2017”

    December 21, 2017 - Lasha Bagaturia, business development manager of CreditInfo Georgia, reported that 22 million records were made in database of the company since 2005.

    “Number of records in the current year has increased in comparison with last year by 4 million and this growth falls mainly on private individuals”, Bagaturia notes.

    EUGEORGIA.INFO: “NEXT GEORGIAN PRODUCT OF ANIMAL ORIGIN, BEING RECOGNIZED BY THE EU, WILL BE AQUACULTURE”

    December 21, 2017 - The fifth Georgian product of animal origin, which will get the right of export to the EU, will be the aquaculture (fish, mollusks, seaweeds), Eugeorgia.Info reports with reference to the Agriculture Ministry.

    However, Georgian businessmen cannot meet so far even demand of the local market, the article points.
