    TABULA: “CHIABERASHVILI: NOT JOBS ARE CREATED, BUT SMALLER NUMBER HAS HOPE TO FIND THEM”

    May 23, 2019 - Gogita Todradze, director of Sakstat, said that certain part of population lost hope to find job, as a result, they belong to the economically inactive category and are not taken into account upon calculation of unemployment rate any more.

    In reply, MP from oppositional European Georgia Zurab Chiaberashvili declared: “Head of the statistics department has to admit that hopelessness reigns in the country and because of this hopelessness, many people, who looked for job until recent, cease to look for job”.

    May 22, 2019 - Вносятся поправки в контракт со швейцарской SGS по мониторингу грузооборота на абхазской и цхинвальском участках грузино-российской границы, сообщает Netgazeti.Ge.

    Поправки в оформленный с SGS в 2017 году контракт предусмотрены распоряжением правительства Грузии от 17 мая этого года.

    На второй позиции по негативной оценке – лидер партии Гирчи Зураб Джапаридзе.

    May 21, 2019 - According to a new survey of National-Democratic Institute (NDI), 59% of Georgian population consider that their country is not ready for the EU membership, Tabula reports. 27% consider that the country is ready, while 14% do not know.

    May 21, 2019 - Answering the question “Whether You traveled to any country of the so-called European Schengen area after enactment of visa-free regime with the EU, after summer of 2017?”, asked within the new survey of National-Democratic Institute (NDI), 90% of Georgian respondents say that you did not travel, Tabula reports. 5% answered that they traveled once, while 3% had traveled several times.

    May 23, 2019 - “There is no fundamental macroeconomic ground for devaluation of lari”, Georgia’s Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze assures.

    According to Kakauridze, “reason of lari devaluation is probably expectations, which market players have”.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “POPULAR PROFESSIONS – SPECIALTIES, WHICH ARE IN GOOD DEMAND IN PROFESSIONAL SCHOOLS”

    May 23, 2019 - Referring to Sakstat, the magazine reports that 8,775 students were enrolled in 2018 in the state professional schools (against of 11,500 – in 2017), while in private ones – 4,356 (against of 4,113).

    The article indicates that according to ReforMeter web portal, lists of specialties, which are in good demand in private and state professional schools, differ considerably.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “BUSINESS CONFIDENCE INDEX. CONSTRUCTION AND FINANCIAL SECTORS WITHOUT SPRING MOOD”

    May 23, 2019 - Referring to survey, the magazine reports that Georgia’s Business Confidence Index (BCI) increased in the 1st quarter by 4.4 points quarter-on-quarter and made up 27 points.

    The survey, within which over 100 Georgian companies were interviewed, was conducted by ICC-Georgia, BIA and ISET.

    May 22, 2019 - По заявлению министра финансов Грузии Иванэ Мачавариани, несмотря на то, что обменный курс приблизился к 2.8 GEL/USD, «мы не видим инфляционного давления».

    Мы убеждены, что инфляция будет в тех пределах, которые установлены Национальным Банком Грузии (3%), заявляет Мачавариани.

    May 21, 2019 - Referring to fiscal risk analysis of Georgia’s budget-2019, the magazine points that state companies had losses of 562 million lari in 2017.

    Whereas, for example, in 2012, turnover of Georgian state enterprises made up 2 billion lari, while their net profit – 151 million lari, the magazine reports and notes: since 2013, profit was replaced by losses.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “IN 2018, NUMBER OF OCCUPIED IN PUBLIC SECTOR INCREASED BY 16,000”

    May 20, 2019 - Referring to Sakstat, the magazine reports that number of occupied in Georgia’s public sector increased in 2018 nu 16,000 and made up 300,000. This category of occupied accounted for 17.7% of total occupied number, against of 16.6% in 2017.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “1,700 FOREIGN SUPPLIERS – REPRESENTATIVES OF WHICH COUNTRIES PARTICIPATE IN GEORGIAN TENDERS”

    May 20, 2019 - In 2018, total cost of Georgia’s state procurements amounted to 4.09 billion lari, the magazine reports. Procurements, conducted through electronic auctions, made up 3.3 billion lari, while simplified procurements (i.e. conducted without tender announcement) totaled to 778.57 million lari.

    May 24, 2019 - Miners in Chiatura hold a large-scale action already for 7 days – over 150 employees of Georgian Manganese are on strike, 15 employees hold a hunger strike, several people sewed up their mouths, the newspaper reports.

    The article points that striking workers blocked all points, from where transportation of extracted manganese ore from the city is possible.

    TABULA: “BAKHTADZE ON ANAKLIA PORT: REPLACEMENT OF INVESTOR IS NOT CONSIDERED”

    May 24, 2019 - Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze declares that “replacement of the investor is not considered” in the project of deep-water port Anaklia. The port “has a strategic importance and, proceeding from it, it has to be surely built”, he notes and adds: construction has to begin “in as due time, as possible”.
