    FORBES GEORGIA: “ACCORDING TO “LOGISTICS INDEX”, GEORGIA IS ON THE 119TH PLACE IN THE WORLD”

    July 27, 2018 - According to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index of 2018, Georgia is in the 119th place among 167 countries of the world, the magazine reports. The article notes that in comparison with previous years, Georgia’s ranking is improved by 11 steps.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “THE RESEARCH, WHICH KVIRIKASHVILI HID FROM IVANISHVILI”

    July 26, 2018 - Billionaire chairman of Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili stated that the IMF research on problem of excessive indebtedness was hidden from him (by the ex-premier Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the ex-minister of economy Dimitri Kumsishvili).

    The newspaper indicates that Georgian Young Financiers and Businessmen Association had pointed at the research, which Ivanishvili speaks about, as far back as 2015.

    July 26, 2018 - The article brings comments of political scientists Soso Tsintsadze and Ramaz Sakvarelidze on recent TV interview of billionaire chairman of ruling Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili.

    Tsintsadze says that the fact is that Ivanishvili “is extremely disappointed with own party and wants to undertake internal political reforms”.

    July 24, 2018 - The bill “On Accumulative Pension” was adopted so that opinion of opponents was not taken into account even minimally, the newspaper says.

    The article indicates that against the background of devaluation of lari and increased inflation, guarantee presented by the government seems quite unconvincing.

    July 24, 2018 - Georgian government plans to launch partially the obligatory accumulative pension scheme since January 1, 2019.

    During the first 5 years of the reform, “investment of pension assets will be made only in less risky investment portfolio”.


    TABULA: “THE PARLIAMENT ADOPTED LAW ON ACCUMULATIVE PENSION IN THIRD HEARING”

    July 23, 2018 - The Parliament adopted in third hearing the law on accumulative pension, which was object of criticism of economists for months, Tabula says.

    The pension scheme will automatically (compulsory) include citizens up to 40 years, employed by contract.

    July 27, 2018 - By order of Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, 134,000 lari is allocated to the school of chants. The chairman of supervisory council of this school is oligarch Vano Chkhartishvili, Tabula reports.

    July 27, 2018 - The Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani declared that the IMF prepared in 2016 a review, which was not published.

    The matter concerns research of the IMF, which billionaire chairman of ruling Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili said was hidden from him by the former prime minister.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “TBILISI AMONG “SMART CITIES” IS ON THE 112TH PLACE”

    July 23, 2018 - According to “Cities in Motion” index of IESE Business School at University of Navarra (Spain), Tbilisi is on the 112th place among 165 “Smart Cities” of 80 countries of the world, the magazine reports.

    The article notes that the best indicator (the 39th place) Tbilisi has in criterion of “environment”, while the worst (the 130th place) – in urban planning.

    July 24, 2018 - By the order of Georgian government, gas pipelines were handed over to SOCAR Georgia Gas through direct sale for 21.3 million lari, the newspaper reports. The order of July 16 is signed by Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze.

    July 25, 2018 - 22 inhabitants of residential complex Metra Park in Tbilisi area Bagebi oppose construction of new multistoried residential building near them, the newspaper reports.

    Though company Metra Development claims that the matter concerns only 8 residents, who challenge construction of 3 houses, envisaged by the master plan of the complex.


    LIBERALI: “ON TEXTBOOK, OBJECTED BY “DIOGENE”, THE COMPETITION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED ANEW”

    July 25, 2018 - Ministry of Public Education, Science, Culture and Sport declared that school textbooks, presented in part of information and communication technologies, are conceptually non-conforming to modern requirements. Because of this, the Ministry will re-announce a competition in this part, the magazine reports.

    July 24, 2018 - Referring to the World Bank, Tabula reports that 15% of Georgia’s electricity consumption is share of production of virtual money, i.e. cryptocurrencies.

    Biggest part of bitcoins in the country is produced in free economic zone, which the government granted to BitFury (the company, registered on the Cayman Islands), handing it over for symbolical price of 1 lari, Tabula points.

    REZONANSI: “SINCE AUGUST 1, GEORGIAN DRIVERS WILL BE FINED IN TURKEY”

    July 23, 2018 - The newspaper reports that minibuses with the Georgian number plates will be fined in Turkey since August 1. The penalty will make up 180 EUR plus compulsory transfer to parking for 15 days, the article specifies.

    LIBERALI: “CHALLENGES OF CREATIVE INDUSTRY IN GEORGIA – INTERVIEW WITH RAGNAR SIIL”

    July 26, 2018 - In June 2015, the EU launched Eastern Partnership Culture and Creativity Program, which covers 6 countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

    The first part of the program, which budget made up 4.2 million EUR, was finished just a few days ago, however it was decided to extend the project by 2 years and that the EU will continue financing, Liberali reports.

    KVIRIS PALITRA: “WHEN CREDIT INTEREST IS HIGH…”

    July 23, 2018 - Researchers of International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET) compared banking credit interest rates in Georgia to ones in other transition countries.

    Researcher of ISET Giorgi Mzhavanadze specifies that including Georgia, the research covered 13 countries, where 48 commercial banks were interviewed.

    REZONANSI: “PROCESS OF “KHRUSHCHEVKAS”’ REPLACEMENT BEGINS”

    July 25, 2018 - Tbilisi City Hall starts the project of replacement of so-called “khrushchevkas” (5-storey apartment blocks, built in early 1960-ies during Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev), the newspaper reports.

    Irakli Tavartkiladze, head of the City Hall’s property management agency, declares that replacement of “khrushchevkas” has to be held within the next 2 years.
