    NETGAZETI.GE: “BOYCOTT: RESTAURANTS IN TBILISI STOP WORKING EVEN ONLINE ON JANUARY 30”

    January 29, 2021 - Georgian Restaurateurs Association reports that on January 30, restaurants operating in Tbilisi will stop working for 24 hours (they accept now only take-out orders). In this form, they protest against the restrictions, imposed by the government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    January 29, 2021 - Referring to survey, held by CRRC Georgia, Tabula reports that 33% of population says that the major problem in Georgia is unemployment. The most important problem for 17% is poverty, while another 17% name COVID-19.


    REZONANSI: “THE STATE STARTED PREPARATION FOR BIG PRIVATIZATION?”

    January 29, 2021 - While commenting on plans of Georgian government to reform state-owned enterprises, academician Auto Silagadze points that “Reforming implies both restructuring and commercialization, in order to hand over [the state-owned enterprises] to private investors through privatization”.

    Silagadze considers that “Only separate enterprises could be retained in state ownership.

    January 28, 2021 - Levan Karalashvili, director of Tbilisi trade center Tbilisi Central, points that 6 shopping centers served 1 million consumers between December 24, 2020 and January 2 of this year, and “no epidemic outbreak happened”.

    “Our sector has shown how the process can be successfully managed during the pandemic”, Karalashvili states.

    January 28, 2021 - Georgian government did not satisfied demand of the country’s shopping centers to grant them property tax benefits, Tabula reports.

    Representatives of the malls say that the objects did not operate for 5 months (because of restrictions, imposed by the government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic), so it is unfair to pay property tax in full.

    January 27, 2021 - “We demanded business to work in a regulations format and not without regulation”, chairman of Georgian Restaurateurs Association Shota Burjanadze points.

    However, Burjanadze estimates that “There is an abysm between society and epidemiologists and the state, which has arisen and is expanding”.

    January 27, 2021 - Tabula reports that protest action named “#Socialburst” is being held in front of office of Georgian government. The article indicates that organizers of the action are companies, affected by imposed restrictions, and civil activists, being supported by part of opposition politicians.

    January 27, 2021 - “We are reckoning now on better quality tourists”, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava declared. While stating this on air of Rustavi-2 broadcasting company, she explained that “high-quality” is a tourist, who is able to spend a lot and is safe at that.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “GEORGIA IN RANKINGS OF 2020”

    January 26, 2021 - The magazine publishes an overview of Georgia’s positions in the international rankings in 2020.

    According to the IMF, Georgia’s average income per capita taking into account purchasing power parity (PPP) amounted in 2020 to $15,142.

    January 26, 2021 - Referring to survey, conducted in Georgia by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Tabula notes that COVID-19 is named in the top five problems for the first time. Namely, the pandemic appears the most important issue for 16% of respondents.

    January 26, 2021 - Referring to survey, conducted in Georgia by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Tabula reports that Georgia’s membership in the EU is acceptable for 80% of respondents. At that, 12% said they do not know, while only 8% are against it.


    REZONANSI: “WHO SHOULD CONVINCE PEOPLE IN NECESSITY OF VACCINATION – WHAT ROLE IS ASSIGNED TO AUTHORITIES AND OPPOSITION IN CHANGING SKEPTICISM OF 41%”

    January 26, 2021 - Referring to survey, conducted in Georgia by the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the newspaper reports that shares of those, who responded positively on question if they would apply to vaccination against COVID-19 in case it was available now, makes up 41% and is equal to share of those, who responded negatively.

    According to the survey, men are more likely to be vaccinated than women, and those with higher education are more likely to be vaccinated than those with education below the average.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “BEKA PERADZE PRESENTED NEW PORTAL – LABOUR.MOH.GOV.GE”

    January 25, 2021 - Beka Peradze, head of Georgian department of labor conditions’ inspection, presented a new portal – labour.moh.gov.ge, the newspaper reports. On this portal, businesses of the country will have to register for testing of employees, which is mandatory for resume operation.

    January 25, 2021 - Referring to BusinessPressNews, the newspaper reports that volume of due, being paid to the budget by the gambling business, decreased in 2020 in Georgia 6.6 times, but has increased in case of online casinos.

    In particular, the budget received from the gambling business 19.26 million lari in the reporting year, against of 128.4 million lari in 2019.

    January 25, 2021 - David Narmania, chairman of Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission, notes that electricity and water supply tariffs increased at the end of 2020. The tariff does not include any extra tetri, he assures in opinion, published in the magazine.

    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: ““IF THE GOVERNMENT DID NOT SUBSIDIZE FLOUR, BREAD WOULD RISE IN PRICE BY 15-20 TETRI””

    January 28, 2021 - Levan Silagava, chairman of Georgian Wheat and Flour Producers Association, points that if Georgian government did not subsidize flour, bread would rise in price by 15-20 tetri.

    “In general, there is tense situation in the world, if in September we imported wheat for $200, now we import for $300” (per 1 ton), Silagava explains.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “BY THE GOVERNMENT DECREE, STATE SUBSIDY PER 1 SACK OF FLOUR INCREASES UP TO 15 LARI”

    January 25, 2021 - By the decree of Georgian government, the state subsidy per 1 sack (50 kg) of the 1st grade wheat flour will amount to 15 lari, the newspaper reports. Until now, the subsidy made up 10 lari.
