1. IDFI: ENCOURAGING PRIVATE INSURANCE AND CREATING A UNIFIED DATABASE WILL CUT EXPENSES ON UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE PROGRAM

Encouraging private insurance in Georgia will cut expenses on universal healthcare program, the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) said.

IDFI pointed that only 17% of Georgian population uses private insurance, the organization pointed, specifying that against of the background of over 1 million employed in the country, there are only 600,000 beneficiaries of private health insurance.

2. IDFI: ABOUT 50% OF IDP FAMILIES IN GEORGIA STILL LACK PERMANENT LIVING SPACE
Economics

Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reported that permanent living spaces are still not provided to about 50% of internally displaced families in Georgia (45,903 families).

Over the past 5 years, the state has provided permanent living spaces to 10,622 such families, and assuming that current pace is maintained, it will take at least 20 years to secure housing for all internally displaced families, IDFI indicated.

3. AGRICULTURE MINISTER: IN 2021, GEORGIA’S EXPORT OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION INCREASED BY 21%
Economics

Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, declared that the country’s export of agricultural production in 2021 totaled to $1.14 billion, increasing by 21% in comparison with 2020. In the reporting year, Georgia carried out export to 99 countries, he noted.

4. AGRICULTURE MINISTER: IN RECENT YEARS, GEORGIA’S PRODUCTION OF PERENNIAL CROPS INCREASED BY 33%

“In recent years, production of perennial crops in Georgia has increased by 33% and made up 600,000 t”, declared Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

Since launch of the state program “Sow the Future” (2015), the state has funded cultivation of new perennial crops on 17,000 ha, the Minister reported, while speaking in the Georgian Parliament today.

5. AGRICULTURE MINISTER: WE ARE WORKING ON MEASURES TO PROMOTE GROWTH OF GRAIN PRODUCTION

“It is necessary to do more towards self-sufficiency with essential products”, declared Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. That is why we are working on measures to promote the growth of grain production, he said.

6. GEORGIAN STANDARDIZATION AND METROLOGY LEGISLATION TO BE HARMONIZED WITH EU DIRECTIVES

Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that legislative framework of Georgia in the fields of standardization and metrology will be harmonized with relevant EU regulations. This is envisaged by the next project within EU-funded Twinning program (cooperation between peer European and Georgian public services).

7. THE FACT OF ILLEGAL BUSINESS ACTIVITY AND STORAGE OF EXCISE-LESS CIGARETTES WAS REVEALED

The Investigative Service of Georgian Finance Ministry reported about revelation of the fact of illegal business activity, storage of excise goods without excise stamps and violation of the rule of goods’ movement at the customs border. In this connection, 3 persons were detained, to whom imprisonment for a period of 8 to 11 years is threatens now.

8. MUNICIPAL BUSES ASSIGNED TO RUN ON RUSTAVI-TBILISI ROUTE
Business

By decision of Rustavi City Hall, municipal buses started operation on Rustavi-Tbilisi route since April 13. This decision followed an “unauthorized increase” of fare by the private transport company Intertrans, the City Hall said.
