IN MARCH, COST OF LIVING IN GEORGIA INCREASED BY 18.5% Y-O-Y

Sakstat reported that in March, average consumer’s cost of living in Georgia amounted to 211 lari. If compared with December 2021, the volume has increased by 6.6% (13 lari), while if compared with March 2021 – by 18.5% (32.9 lari).

GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT PUBLICIZED EUROPEAN COMMISSION’S QUESTIONNAIRE

The Georgian government has published today the European Commission’s questionnaire that was handed over to the country on April 11 within process of its application for the EU membership (filed on March 3). The decision to publicize the document was made at a meeting of the government commission on Georgia’s integration into the EU.

Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, declared that cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan in energy sector is becoming especially topical now. This “will ensure energy independence and energy security not only at the level of our countries, but it is also significantly related to the energy security of Europe”, Davitashvili pointed.

“GALT&TAGGART”: IN Q1, GEORGIA’S TOURISM REVENUES MADE UP 59.4% OF THE 2019 LEVEL

Galt&Taggart reported that 500,000 tourists have visited Georgia in the 1st quarter, making up 52.1% of the indicator of the 1st quarter of 2019 (before the pandemic). If compared with the 1st quarter of 2021, the number has increased by 294.6%.

AGRICULTURE MINISTER: VEGETABLE PRODUCTION HAS INCREASED BY 15% IN RECENT YEARS

“In recent years, vegetable production has increased by 15% and made up 176,000 t”, reported Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia. The Minister said that currently, main part of vegetable import falls on the off-season period, which is caused by insufficient capacity of storage infrastructure.

Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, does not exclude that “because of current reality” (Russia-Ukraine war), subsidies for rtveli (vintage) could be issued this year too. In 2021, the state budget allocated 100 million lari for subsidizing of rtveli.

TWO GEORGIAN MEDICAL COMPANIES GOT A CONCENTRATION PERMISSION

Georgian National Competition Agency has permitted LLC Neo Hospitals to acquire a 100% stake in LLC Amtel Hospital First Clinical. The expected concentration (merger) is compatible with the competitive environment, the Agency said.
