“In 2022, Georgia should have economic growth higher than forecasted by financial institutions”, declared Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development. We expect that the growth rate, planned by the Georgian government (6%), will be achieved, he noted, while speaking on May 27 in the Georgian Parliament.

VOLUME OF FINES, NBG IMPOSES FOR VIOLATION OF ANTI-MONEY-LAUNDERING LEGISLATION, INCREASED 2.9 TIMES IN 2021

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that in order to ensure compliance with Georgian legislation on suppression of money laundering and terrorism financing, 39 representatives of the financial sector were checked in 2021 (against of 23 in 2020). The fine, imposed by NBG for violation of the legislation, totaled to 1.71 million lari, increasing 2.9 times year-on-year.

IN TOTAL CASH, BEING IN CIRCULATION IN GEORGIA, SHARE OF BANKNOTES DECREASED IN 2021

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that volume of cash, which was in circulation in Georgia as of December 31, 2021, totaled to 4.59 billion lari (year-on-year decrease – 1.5%). Out of total, banknotes made up 4.44 billion lari, accounting thus for 96.7% of total volume against of 97.1% in 2020.

IN 2021, NUMBER OF DETECTED COUNTERFEIT LARI BANKNOTES DECREASED BY 30%, OF COINS – 13.8 TIMES

National Bank of Georgia reported that in 2021, an expertise was carried out on 6,756 suspicious banknotes and coins, 61% of which turned out to be counterfeit. Namely, 2,125 counterfeit lari banknotes were identified (year-on-year decrease – 30%).

IN 2021, REVENUES OF NBG FROM SALE OF COLLECTIBLE AND NUMISMATIC VALUABLES AND GOLD INCREASED BY 75.5%

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that 76,800 items of collectible and numismatic valuables and gold worth 6.7 million lari were sold in 2021. Revenues from sale of these values increased year-on-year by 75.5%, NBG said.
