NBG: STATEMENTS ABOUT ALLEGED PLANS ON RESTRICTION OF “VISA” AND “MASTERCARD” ACTIVITIES IN GEORGIA ARE MISINFORMATION

Statements about the alleged plans on restriction of activities of Visa and MasterCard payment systems in Georgia are misinformation, the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared today.

NBG explained that despite the high level of development of card payments in Georgia, this method of payment is not widely available to small entrepreneurs because of high commission fee, and availability of electronic payments is planned to increase through use of instant payment system (non-card scheme).
