Georgian Prime-Minister Zurab Zhvania is participating in the international congress “New Anticorruption Governments”, being held in Kenya (Africa) this week under the aegis of international organization Transparency International. Economic Development Minister Kakha Bendukidze has proposed to make full privatization of agriculture and non-agriculture lands. In order to do that he suggests transferring the power of administering non-agriculture lands now run by local management bodies to the Agriculture Ministry.

In 2002, Zurab Tsintsadze, the director of the enterprise, privatized 75% of state-owned shares for a symbolic price.

Today in Tbilisi has opened a two-day international forum, organized by the American-Georgian Business Council. Mamuka Tsereteli, the executive director of the Council, says representatives of the US business circles are interested in the financial and insurance markets, telecommunications enterprises and port infrastructure.

Zurab Kharatishvili, head of Professional Accountants and Auditors Federation, sees no conceptual difference between the current Tax Code, adopted in 1997, and the new one (being considered by Parliament; it is to come into force on January 1, 2005).
Kharatishvili says the reason is that the document has been drawn up by the Finance Ministry, confined to the interests of the body, while the government has not developed the clear economic development program, nor the strategy of the tax reform.

Government officials and MPs have had a closed-door meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania today to consider the draft Tax Code, which has been already submitted to Parliament. Today Tbilisi Sakrebulo (self-government body) on the post of the vice president has approved Irakli Todua, a 1969 year born, having graduated from the Construction Faculty of Tbilisi Technical University, and working as the expert of UN development program. His predecessor Giorgi Arevadze has been appointed as the deputy interior minister, although he does not occupy this post now.

Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli and the President of the National Bank Irakli Managadze have left today for Washington D.C. to take part in an annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB).
According to the press-services of the Finance Ministry and NB, during the visit the Finance Minister and President of the NB will meet with IMF executive director Jeroen Kremers and WB vice-president Shigeo Katsu to consider the poverty reduction program and the WB’s loan for structural reforms.
