CONSTITUTIONAL COURT RECOGNIZED NULL AND VOID DISPUTABLE NORM ON SUSPENSION OF LAND OWNERSHIP RIGHT FOR FOREIGNERS

Today, Georgian Constitutional Court made the decision on disputable provision of the law “On Ownership of Land of Agricultural Purpose”, which suspended land ownership right for foreigners until entry in force of amendments to the Constitution of the country.

The Court satisfied mediation of claimants (two citizens of Greece) and recognized the mentioned norm null and void without consideration on the merits.

TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, declared that families of 18 members of Georgian government (ministers and their deputies) are connected with business activity. They own stakes or hold positions of directors in 47 companies, the organization specified.

NEW PROJECT ON ASSISTANCE TO DEVELOPMENT OF LIVESTOCK FARMING STARTS IN GEORGIA

Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture declared about start of “Food for Progress”, the new project on assistance to development of livestock farming in the country.

As the Ministry said, budget of this 5-year project makes up $17 million.




“SAKSTAT”: IN 2017, KAKHETI REGION WAS A LEADER IN FISH PRODUCTION

Sakstat reported that in 2017, Kakheti region was a leader in fish production, accounting for 35.1% of total volume of fish production in Georgia. The second was Shida Kartli (26.6%), while the third place – Guria (14.3%).




COMMUNICATION COMMISSION: WHOLESALE COST OF INTERNET SERVICE WILL DECREASE 7-8 TIMES FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM OPERATORS

Georgian National Communication Commission declared about adoption of new regulations, which will reduce 7-8 times wholesale cost of Internet service for small and medium operators.

By the new regulations, small and medium operators will have an opportunity to provide exactly the same services to consumers what are provided today by large Internet operators, the Commission pointed.

REGULATING COMMISSION FOUND 5 BROADCASTERS GUILTY IN VIOLATION OF LAW “ON BROADCASTING”

Georgian National Communication Commission found 5 broadcasters guilty in violation of law “On Broadcasting”, but exempted them from administrative responsibility.

Among these broadcasters are Ajara television and radio (part of structure of Public Broadcaster), Rustavi-2, Imedi, Iberia and Kavkasia.
