    ON AUGUST 9 VISIT OF ZURAB ZHVANIA TO PEKING IS BEGINNING

    During 6-days visit, the Chairman of Georgian Parliament intends to consider questions of recessing partnership between these two countries and widening interparliamental contacts. The visit will be held on the invitation of People’s representative’s assembly of China.


    FIRST SHIPMENT OF RUSSIAN MILITARY EQUIPMENT IS WITHDRAWN

    10 tanks, 13 armored vehicles and 26 units of special technique from Vaziani base were withdrawn on 2 landing ships of Black Sea Fleet of Russian Navy. 10 US, UK and Norway observers were supervising this shipment in Batumi port.

    Personal representative of Abkhazian leader at negotiations on conflict settlement announced on August 7 after the completion of consultations in Tbilisi: “We try to think over the problems facing us, in another way”.     According to the President’s decree, the Ministry of State Property can bring to competition this share packet for symbolic initial price of $1,000. JSC State Insurance Company was founded in the beginning of 1990-s on the bases of Georgian branch of Gosstrakh USSR.

    REASONS OF CONFLICT IN TSALKA REGION IS BEING INVESTIGATED

    During the conflict between Greeks, residing in this region in the south of Georgia, and immigrants from Ajara regions, damaged by Act of God, several tens people were wounded. According to the chairman of Council of Greek Communities of Georgia Kiriak Iordanov, the incident took place on August 4, after, several young drunken Ajarian had beaten Greek-tapster in a cafй.


    COORDINATING COUNCIL OF POLITICALS HAS CEASED PROTEST ACTION

    This decision was taken after the meeting of Council representatives and law enforcement bodies. The main demand of action was the liberation of all political prisoners.
