    RATES ON TREASURY SECURITIES DECREASED

    Georgian Finance Ministry reported that emission of treasury bills and treasury bonds in the 1st quarter totaled to 415 million lari (the same volume, as for the same period of 2018).

    In the reporting period, average weighted yield rates of 6-month treasury bills (emission of 60 million lari) ranged within 6.968-6.757%.


    AS OF MARCH 31, GOVERNMENTAL SECURITIES IN BANKS’ POSSESSION INCREASED BY 23.8% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that lari-denominated securities of Georgian government, being possessed by Georgian commercial banks, amounted as of March 31 to 2.75 billion lari. If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has increased by 23.8%.


    IN Q1, NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS’ VISITS INCREASED BY 2.2% Y-O-Y

    In 3 months of this year, Georgia hosted 1.62 million visits of international travelers, Georgian National Tourism Administration reported. If compared with the same period of 2018, the number has increased by 2.2%, the Agency said.


    FINANCE MINISTER: THE WB WELCOMES GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT-INITIATED EDUCATION REFORM

    “The World Bank (WB) welcomes education reform, initiated by the government”, Georgia’s Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani declared. “Representatives of the WB expressed readiness to join actively the process of the mentioned reform implementation both with financial support and with participation of experts”, he said.


    HEAD OF ECONOMY MINISTRY: THE EU WILL ASSIST US IN CREATION OF TEXTILES AND FURNITURE CLUSTERS

    Representatives of the EU and German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) presented today results of research of possibility of creation in Georgia of clusters of textiles and furniture production, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

    The Minister Giorgi Kobulia declared that research proves existence of quite high potential of development in both sectors.


    DEPUTY ECONOMY MINISTER: NUMBER OF COMPANIES, WHICH EXPORT TO THE EU, INCREASED FOR 4 YEARS BY 37%

    Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Gennady Arveladze reported that number of Georgian companies, which export to the EU, increased in 2018 by 37% in comparison with 2014, and made up 789.

    In 2014-2018, recognizability of Georgian production in the EU increased significantly and such new products as kiwi, dried lemon, persimmon, blackcurrant, apples, quince, fruit jams, glass bottles, etc., also started entry on the European market, Arveladze noted.


    IN ENERGY AND WATER SUPPLY REGULATING COMMISSION, NEXT TWINNING PROJECT LAUNCHED

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission declared about launch of the next EU-financed Twinning project (cooperation between similar public agencies of Georgia and the EU).

    The project aims assistance to Georgia in improvement of quality of power supply and introduction of smart accounting of consumption.


    ITALY ALLOCATED TO GEORGIA 2M EUR FOR ACQUISITION OF NEW STATIONS FOR AIR QUALITY MONITORING

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that the government of Italy allocated 2 million EUR to Georgia for procurement of new stations of air quality monitoring and detailed studying of risks of natural disasters in Tbilisi.

    According to the Ministry, within measures of monitoring strengthening, it is planned to procure and install 5 new stations of air quality control.


    PART IN “CAUCASUS BUILD 2019” IS TAKEN BY UP TO 200 COMPANIES

    Today, the 24th international fair for the building and interiors “Caucasus Build 2019” was opened in Tbilisi exhibition center ExpoGeorgia.

    As Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure reported, this year’s event attracted up to 200 companies from 14 countries.

    IN Q1, “WIZZAIR” CONTINUED LEADING ON GEORGIAN MARKET

    Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported that in terms of passengers, transported by regular and charter flights, Hungarian low-coster WizzAir continued leading on Georgian market in the 1st quarter of this year too (the company was a leader in 2018).

    In particular, WizzAir transported 152,697 passengers, accounting to 15% of total number, the Agency said.
