    SPEAKER: LAND-RELATED DRAFT BILL WILL BE READY BY END OF JUNE

    Speaker of Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze stated that “new Constitution, new edition, will enter in force, presumably, after November of this year, after the new president takes the oath”.

    “Until that, we need harmonization of legislation with the Constitution and one of the most essential draft bills, which has to be prepared and which we have to accept, in fact, until end of June, will be the draft bill, related to land [ownership]”, Kobakhidze declared to journalists yesterday.


    THE PREMIER: INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIVE MECHANISM HAS BEEN CREATED

    “Independent investigative mechanism has been created, to which investigation will be subjected crimes, undue treatment and abuse of authority, committed by law enforcement officers”, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared at the government meeting today.

    “It is important that the project envisages absolute independence of this department and this hierarchical independence will be secured by the Parliament”, the Premier specified.

    PREFERENTIAL TAXATION TO BE IMPOSED FOR SMALL BUSINESS

    The government announced about new tax initiative, which envisages introduction of preferential taxation for small business.

    At the government meeting today, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that sales tax rate for small business “will be 1% instead of 5%”.


    THE PREMIER: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BRING CONSTRUCTION PROCESS IN TBILISI IN ORDER AND TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO RECREATIONAL SPACES’ DEVELOPMENT

    “It is very important to bring construction process in order and to pay even more attention to development of recreational spaces in Tbilisi”, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared.

    The Premier declared this at the government meeting today, which initiated amendment of rule and terms of construction permits’ issuing.


    COLCHIS WOODS AND WETLANDS TO BE DECLARED NATURAL HERITAGE AREA OF UNESCO

    Colchis woods and wetlands will be declared area of world natural heritage of UNESCO, Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported.

    The Ministry noted that its Agency of Protected Areas works together with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in order that Machakhela, Mtirala and Kolkheti (Colchis) national parks, as well as protected areas Kobuleti and Kintrisha to get the mentioned status in the first instance.


    ECONOMY MINISTRY: IN SPHERE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY, THERE ARE 153 ONGOING PROJECTS WORTH $8.5B

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that there are 153 ongoing projects in sphere of renewable energy, which total investment cost amounts to $8.5 billion. Total capacity of these projects makes up 5,283 MW.


    ECONOMY MINISTRY: WORKS WITHIN THE PROJECT ON EXPANSION OF SOUTH CAUCASUS GAS PIPELINE NEAR TO END

    Works within the project on expansion of South Caucasus gas pipeline are near to end, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared.

    As the Ministry noted, this project has special importance for the 2nd phase of development of Azeri gas fields and Shah-Deniz in particular and generally, for development of the Southern Gas Corridor.

    MARINE WORKS WITHIN THE PROJECT OF ANAKLIA PORT CONSTRUCTION IS PLANNED TO START IN SUMMER

    Marine works within the project of Anaklia deep-water port construction is planned to start in this summer, Anaklia Development Consortium announced.

    At the first stage of these works, deepening and reclaiming will happen, for which end, special vessel and other equipment will be brought to Anaklia, the consortium specified.


    THE GOVERNMENT: SWISS “STADLER” WILL BUILT CAR-BUILDING PLANT IN TBILISI

    Swiss company Stadler Rail AG will built car building-and-repair plant in Tbilisi, Georgian government declared. For that end, 3 possible locations in the capital outskirts are considered.


    ARABLE LAND AND PASTURES OVER 1,200 HA IN KASPI AND TSAGERI ARE GIVEN IN 25-YEAR RENT TO TWO COOPERATIVES

    Arable land sites and pastures with total area over 1,200 ha in municipalities of Kaspi (Shida Kartli region) and Tsageri (Racha-Lechkhumi) are given in 25-year rent to two agricultural cooperatives, the government reported. These lands will be used by 43 local families, having over 400 heads of cattle.
