    GEORGIAN FINANCE MINISTER: ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS OF THE EU PLAY SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN FULFILLMENT OF PLAN OF THE GOVERNMENT

    Georgia’s Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani indicated that political, financial and technical assistance programs of the EU play significant role in fulfillment of the Georgian government’s plan.

    Machavariani declared this at the meeting with Carl Hartzell, new ambassador of the EU in Georgia, which was held today, the Finance Ministry reported.


    CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS: SYSTEMIC PROBLEM OF CORRUPTION NEEDS IMMEDIATE REACTION

    Systemic problem of corruption needs immediate reaction, Georgian non-governmental organizations declare and specify that several records were released recently, which display facts of presumably serious corruption crimes and demands of illegal pass of property.

    The organizations emphasize the publicized materials, related to Omega Group and broadcasting company Iberia, which they say, contain signs of grave corruption crime, presumably, with participation of high-rank officials.


    COMMUNICATION COMMISSION: RAISE OF LIMIT FOR FREE POLITICAL ADVERTISEMENT CAN CAUSE DECLINE OF DEMAND FOR PURCHASE OF PAID POLITICAL ADVERTISING

    Georgian National Communication Commission declared that “significant raise of obligatory limit of free political advertisement by nationwide broadcaster can cause decline of demand for purchase of paid political advertising by qualified election subjects”.

    The Commission pointed this in the statement, released today in connection with decision of broadcasting company Rustavi-2.

    CHAIRMAN OF GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT’S COMMITTEE ON ECONOMIC POLICY: THE WB ESPECIALLY EMPHASIZES IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

    Upon planning programs and interventions, the World Bank (WB) “especially emphasizes importance of educational programs, as core basis of raise of competitive youth”, declared Roman Kakulia, chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Branch Economy and Economic Policy.

    The WB “considers that this is our country’s main challenge in achievement of desirable model and level of economic development by Georgia in future”, Kakulia pointed.


    TOURISM ADMINISTRATION: ACCORDING TO UNWTO REPORT, GEORGIA IS ON THE 2ND PLACE AMONG THE MOST FAST-GROWING TOURISM COUNTRIES OF EUROPE

    Referring to Bloomberg, Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that report for 2017 of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) places Georgia the 2nd among the most fast-growing tourism countries of Europe. Last year, growth of the tourism sector in Georgia made up 27.9%.


    GEORGIA ADVANCED BY 2 POSITIONS IN THE RATING OF FRASER INSTITUTE

    Economic Freedom Ranking of 2018, published by Canadian Fraser Institute, places Georgia the 7th among 162 countries.

    In the previous rating (2017), Georgia was on the 9th place, while in 2016, the country shared places 7-9 with Australia and Mauritius.


    26 TENDERS ON ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE REHABILITATION TO BE ANNOUNCED BEFORE OCTOBER 15

    Georgian Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure declared that its Roads Department will announce 26 tenders on road infrastructure rehabilitation until October 15. As the Ministry said, total cost of these tenders exceeds 185 million lari.


    THE PARLIAMENT’S COMMITTEE ON REGIONAL POLICY AND SELF-GOVERNANCE DISCUSSED PROBLEM OF ZHINVALI COLLECTOR

    The problem of Zhinvali collector was discussed at today’s meeting of the Parliament’s Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Governance.

    The Committee chairman Zaza Gabunia indicated that main reservoir is in ownership of GWP (water supply and sewerage company of Tbilisi), but its ownership and responsibility does not extend to the collector.

    COMPETITION ON AUDIT OF NBG HAS TO BE HELD NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 19

    Georgian Parliament declared that competition, which has to select independent auditor for reporting of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) for 2018-2019, will be held no later than October 19. Applications have to be submitted through midday of October 1.


    DIRECTOR OF SO-CALLED “REPUBLICAN HOSPITAL” FIRED

    Georgian Partnership Fund reported that its affiliated Clinics Development Company decided to remove Avtandil Imedadze from position of director of Kipshidze Central University Clinic (so-called “Republican Hospital”).

    As the Fund noted, the decision is made because of financial and economic violations, revealed in the clinic after internal and external audits.
