    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “POLITICAL VERDICT OF THE GAMBLING – REGULATIONS ARE BLOCKED BY THE PARLIAMENT CHAIRMAN”

    March 1, 2019 - As it becomes clear from official statistics, turnover of gambling business in Georgia exceeds combined showing of supermarkets and grocery stores, the newspaper says.

    In particular, turnover of gambling business in 2017 amounted to 5.65 billion lari, exceeding almost by 1.6 billion a turnover of unspecialized retail shops.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “IN RULE OF LAW RATING, GEORGIA WENT DOWN AND TOOK THE 41ST PLACE IN THE WORLD”

    March 1, 2019 - In the Rule of Law Index of the World Justice Project, Georgia occupies the 41st place among 126 countries of the world, the magazine reports. The article notes that 8 new countries were added to rating this year.

    February 28, 2019 - Former defense minister (in the government of Georgian Dream) Tina Khidasheli estimates that attack on TBC Bank “is attack on Anaklia port”. The Anaklia port project is from the list of fears, like “not to irritate”, “not to remind ourselves to” [Russia], she considers.

    February 27, 2019 - Mamuka Khazaradze (founder shareholder of TBC Bank and former chairman of its supervisory council) and his former deputy in the council Badri Japaridze are ready to come to Georgian Parliament once again, Netgazeti.Ge reports.

    On February 26, hearings were planned in the Parliament’s Committee on Branch Economy and Economic Policy on the issue of TBC Bank (sanctions, imposed on TBC Bank by National Bank of Georgia because of alleged violations, traced in transactions of the bank of 2007-2008), but they did not take place.

    February 27, 2019 - Referring to Accent news agency, Tabula reports about statement of the US Embassy in Georgia, according to which, “image of Georgia will be essentially affected by the way of TBC Bank’s case”.

    The embassy stresses that the explanations, made in this regard, will considerably affect image of Georgia in respect of investment and business doing.


    REZONANSI: “WHETHER WATER WILL RISE IN PRICE? – CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION SPREADS FROM THE COMMISSION”

    February 26, 2019 - Information is spread that water tariff for the population will rise about 3 times since 2021, the newspaper says.

    Giorgi Pangani, member of Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission, considers that the tariff can change only if household and non-household tariffs are equated.


    TABULA: “ACCORDING TO GNERC MEMBER, WATER TARIFF FOR FAMILY HOTELS WILL BE CHANGED SINCE APRIL”

    February 26, 2019 - Referring to the member of Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission (GNERC) Giorgi Pangani, Tabula reports that price of water for family hotels will become hybrid after March.

    As the article explains, a family hotel will pay 0.33 lari per cubic m (a household tariff) for consumption of up to 20 cubic m in a month, while in case of larger consumption – 4.40 lari (non-household tariff).


    KVIRIS PALITRA: “WHETHER KHAZARADZE WILL APPEAR IN POLITICS?”

    February 25, 2019 - In an interview to the newspaper, former defense minister of Georgia (in the government of Georgian Dream) Tina Khidasheli assumes that initiative to ruin Mamuka Khazaradze (demand of National Bank of Georgia on his removal from a post of supervisory council chairman at TBC Bank) proceeds from Bidzina Ivanishvili (billionaire leader of Georgian Dream), who is interested in the project of Anaklia port.

    Khidasheli indicates that “if there would be a need, good lawyers will easily think up how to remove Mamuka Khazaradze from Anaklia port”.


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “MERCEDES VERA-MARTIN – GEORGIAN ECONOMIC DEVELOPS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION”

    February 25, 2019 - Head of the IMF mission Mercedes Vera-Martin declared that Georgian economic develops in the right direction.

    The head of the mission said this after meeting with chairman of Georgian Parliament’s Fiscal Committee Irakli Kovzanadze, the newspaper reports.


    REZONANSI: “SINCE 2021, WATER FOR THE POPULATION WILL RISE 3 TIMES IN PRICE”

    February 25, 2019 - Member of Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission Giorgi Pangani declares that since 2021, water tariffs for household and non-household consumers will be equaled and cost of 1 cubic m of water will make up about 1 lari.

    Currently, household tariff (cost of 1 cubic m) makes up 43 tetri, while non-household – 4.4 lari.

    TABULA: “INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND DECREASED FORECAST OF GEORGIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH”

    March 1, 2019 - The IMF decreased forecast of Georgia’s economic growth, Tabula reports.

    Referring to statement of the IMF, published on February 28, the article notes that growth in Georgia is expected to make up 4.6% in 2019 that is by 0.18 percentage points lower than in the of forecast October 2018 (4.78%).


    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “OBJECTS, WHICH PRIVATIZATION IS PLANNED IN GEORGIA IN 2019”

    February 28, 2019 - Referring to Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kobulia, the newspaper reports that privatization, planned for 2019, includes large real estate of 120 million lari, public enterprises of 30 million lari and small objects of 20 million lari.

    Besides, according to the Minister, privatization of Georgian State Electrosystem is considered.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “WHAT WORRIES GEORGIAN BUSINESS – PRIVATE SECTOR NAMES FACTORS HAMPERING ACTIVITY”

    February 28, 2019 - In the 1st quarter, Georgian business confidence index made up 22.6, decreasing by 7.4 points quarter-on-quarter, the magazine reports with reference to research of ICC, BIA and ISET. The research included 44 large and 116 small enterprises.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “78.1M LARI FOR BUSINESS TRIPS – TRAVEL EXPENSES OF BUDGETARY ORGANIZATIONS”

    February 27, 2019 - During the last 5 years, budget allocations for business trips have increased by 13.8 million lari and amounted in 2018 to 78.1 million lari, the magazine reports.

    Largest sum for the last year (40.8 million lari) was spent by the Defense Ministry.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “FOR LAST 5 YEARS, VOLUME OF GAMBLING BUSINESS’ PAYMENTS TO THE BUDGET HAS DOUBLED”

    February 26, 2019 - Payments, made to the state budget by gambling business, amounted in 2018 to 136.5 million lari, the magazine reports. According to the article, this volume by 17 million lari exceeds an indicator of 2017 and by 71.6 million lari – one of 2014.

    February 28, 2019 - In order to avoid an overload of EngurHES, short-term contract was signed between Georgian Electricity System Commercial Operator and InterRAO company, Netgazeti.Ge reports with reference to Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

    Netgazeti.Ge brings quotation of the Ministry’s information, which says that “in order to cover deficiency of the electric power, 45 million kWh will be one-time supplied in March of the current year to occupied Abkhazia that makes up 20% of annual consumption of the region”.

    March 1, 2019 - From the statement, made by Georgian Prosecutor’s Office concerning TBC Bank, we learned the only new fact that new name has appeared in this case, the newspaper notes.

    The article reports that after Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze (resigned chairman of supervisory council of the bank and his deputy), the Prosecutor’s Office became interested in Paata Gadzadze, who worked on high position in the bank since 1993.

    February 27, 2019 - Employees of Tbilaviamsheni (Tbilisis Aviation Builder, manufacturing and repair of military planes) went on strike today, the newspaper reports. As the article says, they demand pay rise and improvement of working conditions.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “NBG FIXED IN PUBLIC REGISTER SUSPENSION OF SIGNATORY AUTHORITY FOR KHAZARADZE/JAPARIDZE”

    February 26, 2019 - Based on request of National Bank of Georgia (NBG), Georgian Public Register has fixed in official documents of TBC Bank that signatory authority of supervisory council chairman Mamuka Khazaradze and his deputy Badri Japaridze is suspended, Netgazeti.Ge reports.

    The article notes that corresponding record is made on February 25.
