    GEORGIA TO RECEIVE FIRST LOT OF ANTI-COVID-19 VACCINE IN THE SECOND HALF OF FEBRUARY

    Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of Georgian National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, announced that Georgia has received confirmation from the COVAX platform that the first lot of Pfizer’s anti-COVID-19 vaccine will be delivered to the country in the second half of February.

    Gamkrelidze specified that the matter concerns 29,250 doses, which is enough for about 14,000 people (vaccine to be made twice).

    MONETARY POLICY RATE REMAINS INTACT

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared that its Monetary Policy Committee decided today to keep the refinancing rate unchanged. Accordingly, the monetary policy rate still makes up 8%.


    IN 2020, DEPOSITS PLACED IN NATIONAL CURRENCY INCREASED BY 40.1%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by individuals and legal entities in national currency, totaled as of December 31, 2020 to 13.4 billion lari. If compared with the same date of 2019, the volume has increased by 40.1%.


    IN 2020, DEPOSITS PLACED IN FOREIGN CURRENCY INCREASED BY 22.7%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by individuals and legal entities in foreign currency, totaled as of December 31, 2020 to equivalent of 21.98 billion lari. If compared with the same date of 2019, the volume has increased by 22.7%.


    IN 2020, IN DEPOSITS, PLACED IN FOREIGN CURRENCY, USD ACCOUNTED FOR 83.3%, EUR – FOR 15.4%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in total deposits, placed as of December 31, 2020 in Georgian banks in foreign currency, 83.3% or the equivalent of 18.3 billion lari, are denominated in US dollars. The volume (equivalent to 21.98 billion lari) has increased by 24.8% year-on-year.


    IN 2020, DEPOSITS, PLACED BY LEGAL ENTITIES IN NATIONAL CURRENCY, INCREASED BY 55%, IN FOREIGN CURRENCY – BY 24.8%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed by legal entities in Georgian banks in national currency, totaled as of December 31, 2020 to 8.96 billion lari. If compared with the same date of 2019, the volume has increased by 55%.


    IN 2020, DEPOSITS, PLACED BY INDIVIDUALS IN NATIONAL CURRENCY, INCREASED BY 17.5%, IN FOREIGN CURRENCY – BY 24.4%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed by individuals in Georgian banks in national currency, totaled as of December 31, 2020 to 4.5 billion lari. If compared with the same date of 2019, the volume has increased by 17.5%.


    IN 2020, NUMBER OF ATMS INCREASED BY 3.9%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of December 31, 2020, there were 2,630 ATMs operating in the country. If compared with the same date of 2019, the number has increased by 3.9% (by 99 units).
